For just over a week now, I've been waking up at 04:43. Okay, once was 04:42 and a couple if times we're 04:40, but pretty reliably at 04:43 or within a couple if minutes. There's no reason, need or external influence to cause this. I just curse the time, roll over and go back to sleep.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening or how-to cure it? Doesn't make any difference what time I go to bed.

Neighbour leaving for an early shift.

Central heating kicking in on a timer.

There’ll be an external factor that’s waking you up.

Car doors or neighbours cars starting used to be my cause. Maybe try sleeping in another room for a short period to break out of the habit. On a side note I thought your post was about
John cage

It’s because you’re now focused on it.

I’ve been waking up at 2:30 and 5:10 for about 6 months now. On the odd occasion I need a poo at the 5:10 one.

That's the kind of detail we like, Kryton. Any Bristol Stool Chart info for us? 🙂

As per PiknMix, try to stop focusing on the time/clock when you wake? You maybe reinforcing the cycle, if your alarm hasn’t sounded try rolling over, & settling back in?
I’d go with PP & CM888 suggestion, some new external factor maybe the source.

Nothing in the house kicking in at that time. I'm sure it's not neighbours moving about either. Of late, it's not the only time I've been waking up, but other times seem a lot more random.

Is my son popping round to see you? It's about that time every day the little darling wakes us currently, oh how I miss the 06.00 wake up call from him 😢

Was anybody ever murdered in your house, early in the morning, say?

Edit - curses, beaten to it!

we had a spooky spell where at least one of us would wake up at a time with the same hours and minutes, so 04.04, 06.06 etc. it became 'a thing' and we'd do a screenshot on our phones to prove it in the morning, but then got out of hand where we'd wake the other person up to say "its 05.05" for instance 😀
this started happening most nights and we'd just end up knackered and grumpy with each other so had to call a truce 😀

barrel of laughs in the punk household 😀

Put your clock back 3 hours and see what time you wake up

Have you recently moved in to the house, and did you annoy the sellers during the purchase process?

Watches with alarms can be found very cheaply on Amazon, and floor boards are easy to remove.

Oh, the huge psychological difference between your kids bursting in to wake you at 5:59 rather than 6:01.....

I once got woken early at a regular time 3 or 4 times a week. Turns out next door had bought a bread maker, set it up on a timer and when it started up it woke their dog who barked a couple of times before dozing off again.

For a short period of time in the West, prior to the the industrial revolution apparently. Though it's cultural rather than in our generic make up. Best to sleep through.

I get this and it varies between 3.10 and 4.40. I will wake for a few days/ weeks at a certain time. The causes seem to vary, it can be a neighbour's cat jumping through the side gate causing the gate to 'clang' which I will sometimes hear and can therefore identify the cause.

Sometimes I think it is me internally with the thoughts going though my head causing the wake up.
