My feet have grown. Unfortunately now my beloved scarpa SL's are just a bit too tight round the toes. I'm expecting The next size up to be a bit too big, but will go try a pair to be sure. Anything similar going about with same 1 piece leather construction, no membrane and can take a walking crampon when required (rarely required)?
I've had them for about 8 years, they look like new and have never let me down. Never had wet feet whilst wearing them. Hoping the 46 fits OK, but just looking for other options as I'd rather not spend £200ish on a pair of boots
Nothing as mainstream, as far as I'm aware. I'm sure there's a small manufacturer but it was one of the few one piece leather boots without a membrane. I have the SLs (as well as Mantas and Marmoladas), big fan of Scarpa
Altberg Tethera might be closest but they come with a membrane (I seem to recall when I asked for a pair without that even the salesperson admitted it was pretty redundant).
Great boots, not sure about the walking crampons though
Well it's all down to what fits. Like benp1 I'm a Scarpa fan - SLs and Mantas. I also still have a pair of the original Mantas which following a resole have years of life left in them (lighter than current SLs though and nothing like current Mantas). Mrs Slow also has a pair with the original Skywalk soles and matching Berghaus Attack gaiters.
I was also a big fan of Scarpa rock boots though of course fit and rock boots are an oxymoron.
I quite like some Sportiva stuff too but they are a bit narrow in the toe.
Have you tried a different footbed? Different types can sometimes make a big difference in toe space
Alternatively somewhere like backcountryuk in Otley may be able to do a stretch for you
Very little about that meets those criteria and even less at cheaper prices I'd imagine.
I had Scarpa SL's for years and now have Altberg Tethra's - similar old school leather boot I would say. Fine with walking crampons on the odd occasion I've used them. They will fit (they do half sizes and 5 widths and made to measure if you're really weird/deformed) not cheap though
My feet have grown.
It may be that your arches have dropped / flattened out effectively lengthening your foot, in which case some sort of decent aftermarket footbed with a good arch support might actually make them effectively shorter again. Might be worth a try.
I see someone's posted the suggestion already, but +1 amyway.
^^ What BWD said.
In other Scarpa news,Mrs FH has just retired her Scarpas and went for some Salewa Rapace GTXs
Used them straight out the box for all off last week and gave them a big 👍
I already use after market insoles as I have quite a high arch and like a lot of arch support. My feet grew over lockdown, probably due to wearing slippers for a year causing arch to drop and front of my foot to spread. The SL's were quite large for their size so seemed OK but Last winter I didn't get to wear them much as I was breaking in another pair of boots for the west highland way.
I've tried a few other insoles but toes are still too cramped.
I'll take a trip into Tiso at some point and give a few boots a try on. Hopefully the larger size SL's work. I think they've changed the last since I got the mine, so might not suit my feet at all.
