The new Haibike TRN/IQ (pronounced 'tronic') is another machine to adopt the Pinion MGU gearbox-motor.

Bike weight? I guess if it's not listed by Haibike then it's not particularly light...

The highest praise an eeb can be granted 😉

It'll be interesting to see how these Pinion MGU bikes get on in terms of reliability. It's such a neat solution on paper.

I know a fella with the Nicolai one though, and it's not light.

Very interested in the technology and how it matures.

About time to lose external derailleurs in ebikes.
Decently made gearboxes and belt drives are the only really sensible solution to the problems ebikes present for drivetrain longevity.
And ability to shift anytime, under full power is really nice.

The amount of broken cassettes I have seen servicing customers bikes...

Absolutely agree. Now we've had a cargo bike with belt drive for 1.5yrs and 3500kms, why hell do we put up with chains and rear mechs? It is nothing short of a revelation

Seen other MGU equipped bikes in the ‘North of 60lbs’ category.

I’m not one to fuss over weight much, but that made me wince.
