Tempted by a kickr core and zwift set up which I intend to mount my mtb to. The bike can take a 38 tooth chainring which I'm happy to fit. Will zwift work reasonably well with a 38x10 gear set up or will it be a bit of a non starter? Reasonably fit but more weekend warrior than xc race snake. Haven't used zwift before so no real idea of how it works beyond the demo and concept.
The bike is less of an issue than the tyres. I use my old Boardman hardtail with slicks/ road tyres on and it’s fine. If you have MTB tyres on it will drive you potty with the noise!
I’ve been spending a lot more time on it recently and starting to wonder if I should get a cheap road bike for zwift only but not convinced I need it...
38-10 will be fine for B/C/D cats, you'd probably want more for an A rier.
A Tacx 700x32 works perfectly on 29 and 650B frames.
You may find cheaper that's just the first on Ebay.
I use my 29er and my boy uses his Liv 27.5 with same wheel.
You can of course use any tyre... but with more noise.
Thanks guys, sounds like it will be fine. The kickr core is a direct drive rather than wheel driven so that shouldn't be an issue.
Easy then.
Core does not have height adjustment, which won’t be a huge issue for 26” wheels with a fat front tyre. Getting will be fine. The core will give you power to run Zwift regardless of your gear.
When in ERG mode it doesn't matter what front cog\rear cog\cadence you're in. The app will adjust the core trainer resistance to ensure you're hitting the target power output. Only point to note with the core trainer is that it doesn't transmit cadence so you'll need to add a cadence sensor.
Some ftp (sufferfest 4dp test) aren't done in ERG mode but that shouldn't be an issue.
