Good morning all.
We are sat on 13 entries at the moment (14 if @paino is feeling adventurous).
One team (STW, but that is a formality we can swerve...) has been lumbered with a 13.5 minute start delay this week. I think I'll leave that as STW unless it's the difference between @paino riding and not riding, seeing as he pre-declared a degree of urgency this week... paino, how are you feeling? (Ride time will be low 50s).
Still time for 2 (maybe 3) more riders, so give it until lunchtime and I'll post some teams/tags/discord etc.

There is a super boost start that you can do whereby everyone spins up during the 10 sec countdown to start in the pairing screen and you set of by exiting the pairing screen instead of just pedalling. Idea being you start on 4-500w not from 0w. I can see that going very wrong for us!

If you do all that slow enough tonight, you could join in the "super boost start" (is that an official term @robbo1234biking?) with MoreSTW, let your power drop to zero before you get to the keyboard/mouse, then amble back to the bike and then just start normally at +13.5 minutes with STW.

It should be randomised between that, just exiting the pairing screen, making the onscreen elevation profile functional and taking you back to the choose world screen. Which, bizarrely, would be an improvement on current functionality.
16.5 mins. I will do a trainerroad erg warm up for 10 mins in that case as I can use my phone for that whilst we are waiting.

@robbo1234biking Don't forget to hand control back to zwift after. Obvious, I know - but I once made that mistake and raced - Leith Hill after party, of all things - with the garmin (not)controlling my resistance. Constant 3%.

Extra detail for newer riders...
- your Rider Name in zwiftpower (not zwift) needs to be tagged, using normal not square brackets, with your team name. So @trolo1234 and @jamesoz you need to add "(MoreSTW)" to your name. Not the quotes though. You can do this durably in zwiftpower --> profile --> settings --> Rider Name, or just for this one event today at https://www.zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=1204976 --> Settings (top right) --> My Name [enter whole name I think, not just the tag]
- comms will be on discord. join the STW server ( https://discord.gg/rWgN4ttT) and then each TTT team has its own channel in the list of voice channels. go there towards the start time. people use it differently (headphones, speakers, whatever). It can work without but I don't recommend it. If it doesn't work for you, just start at the appropriate time and join the group...
- you need a road bike (in game). don't use a TT bike whatever you do.
- dress in the bumblebee outfit.
- the START procedure is a bit odd. Make sure that you enter the event before 19:40. There is no late join. But when it says GO! you MUST NOT GO. In fact, you must stop pedalling in advance of that to make sure you are at zero power at zero seconds. Then we WAIT our start delay. Just sit there. Don't pedal. Be patient. Today, for MoreSTW that means another 3:30 minutes. We'll organise a countdown / shout of go in discord. But it'll be at 19:43:30 . At that point, you can GO!
- There is no complex strategy to master although it is an acquired skill. Ride with the group. Your presence is itself a contribution. Put in some turns on the front if you want (or unintentionally), noone has a territorial claim to the driving seat, or just hang on the back if that's how it's going for you. Our philosophy is to get everyone to the end, so unless you really crack, speak up if you are struggling and we'll regroup etc.

I don't know if we'll get a result (officially we were a mix of STW and MoreSTW...) but there was chaos so maybe I can get us consolidated.

Yeah but of a nightmare, I couldn’t change my name in zwiftpower, wouldn’t let me log in. Logged out of zwift then couldn’t get back in!

Bad luck all those locked out. Just by chance I'd logged in ages ahead of time to check for updates and then forgot to log out again
I logged in about 20 mins early and left it there as I was going to do my warm up during our 16 min wait. Not sure how much time we lost in the start but I don’t think we went early. Once we got going it was good. We rode well together and re-took that team and out a minute into them by the end. Was a great workout that one - almost 900 calories burnt and enjoyed the final surge. Looks like all the tags are ok so see what happens but the result isn’t too important. Was good to ride.

You all vanished at one point, possible WiFi/internet issue, I just tried to pedal consistently until you reappeared, I or my android phone failed at discord and I dropped the iPhone I use for companion. Was fun though, cheers.

@jamesoz you rode well and stuck with the group. Was a good first tt outing especially without comms. You kept physically disappearing from the screen due to dropouts I think but came back into the group so it didn’t disturb too much. We didn’t have any big power guys I don’t think (I think everyone was about 270w ish) so think everyone took turns on the front.
Ha, our tags are all correct. That's quite an achievement this evening.
Mocha is for C/D mixed teams. No idea why it's put us there with a warning, it knows it's wrong. With those tags it should reclassify us back into latte eventually. We lost a bit of time at the start but it doesn't matter.
@jamesoz it isn't usually that shambolic. The ride, once we got going, was a good one though. I hope you had a good time. You did the invisibility trick a few times.
I enjoyed it, thanks for organising. Different kind of pressure to a normal race, probably less likely to have a coronary in the conservatory without the mental starts.
That was a mad scramble with 30 secs to go to change the ZP tag, and also to get out on the dot of 3:30. My water bottle was not prepped and no snacks !, thought I had 16 minutes to sort that out.
Didn't have much more to give and didn't get dropped, so top marks all round.

Just a note to say that as the Zwift Apprentice unplugged the main server to charge his phone, much of the Zone 8 race data that did come through needs a bit of 'Martin Magic' working on it but some of it is more dead than a dodo.

@robbo1234biking no, no takers for the redo on Friday (not a surprise...). Yep @ivandobski it is a difficult course for a TTT - one of my favourites for solo racing, but this will be totally different to that. The first time up the main climb is basically straight out of the gate, so might be OK, but the third time up, after all the little ups and downs of the laps is going to be a proper test.
Easier than Richmond a couple of weeks back though I reckon. Only the one climb instead of three!
Have fun folks but it's a no from me this week sorry.
(and we always do well on hilly courses so I wouldn't worry too much!)

seem to have picked up a cold from somewhere and feel a bit crap so haven't registered for this Thurs yet, will have to see how I feel on the day. Probably won't do the race tonight either which is gutting as I've not missed one yet! (well, I shouldn't do it, although unlike the TTT there's the option of easing off/bailing out whenever I feel like it so might decide to wheeze through it...)
I'm just speculating, but they haven't announced a course, or anything which distinguishes it from a normal Thursday TTT. I could be wrong (indeed, demonstrably wrong already if they've released more info on facebook or something). But the date changed once, and I wouldn't be surprised if it changed again, that's all...
@zilog6128 I really thought your cold was being wheeled out as an reason to skip the xmas/new year TTTs to start with then. That's a shame though, @weeksy is tipping you (plausibly...) for the win tonight on the race thread.
@savoyad lol hadn’t even looked at the handicaps for this week... I guess that’s down to my relatively low FTP... basically just have to let the faster riders tow me round for some easy points 😀 damnit can feel myself getting reeled in 🤣
I joke but actually would be up for those TTTs! Definitely in the slower team for RtS though, draft effect would be much less so would be too brutal trying to keep up with the faster guys! Bologna might be ok (it’s actually one of my favourite routes although never done the 2 lap,version), the climb is much shorter although would obviously require a big effort to keep the pace up!

Start delays are STW 3.5 and More STW 15 minutes, which I think means STW will be chasing down MoreSTW in the second half of (their) race.

Those delays are getting lengthy these days, it's a bit of a downer. Prepare for 15, expect 3 based on last week !.
Zwift already has a ghost power up, it would be great if these events were shorter launch delays or similar like the individual TTT, (with the travellator) but teams near you were in ghost mode, so they can't affect your team and you only see them as they approach from the rear or you approach someone else, then they fade out until there is a distance between you.
Unless you like the chaos of course.

There's no predictable pattern, so I've given up blaming myself and stopped trying to game it. Tonight, for example, delays are long in all categories. I've considered entering a different (aka "wrong") pen if it would make a difference but the quieter pens (e.g. espresso tonight) just get bigger gaps between the teams.
I suppose it's just popular. It is frustrating though. At least tonight the fluke that it'll mean STW coming back round and chasing to lap MoreSTW adds something.

A reminder of the important info.
- tag your zwiftpower name (no change needed in zwift itself) with your team name in brackets. You can do this on a permanent basis at zwiftpower.com --> zwift profile --> settings --> rider name, or just for this one race by going here https://www.zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=1232591 then Settings (top right), My Name.
- enter the pen ("join" the event) by 19:40. There is no late join even with long start delays.
- ride a road bike and dress as a bumblebee
- the start procedure: when it says GO!, you MUST NOT GO. Stop pedalling before then, so you are at zero watts at "go". Then wait until our start delay has elapsed. Do not pedal at all until the delay is finished. Then you can GO! This is possible using a watch alone, but better done through comms...
