I did kind of enjoy it Robbo buy found it pretty tough going. i was convinced i had averaged more watts as i felt pretty knackered towards the end.

Took a while to get a grip of a tendency to yo yo. Something i try to do in races is always being on the power and if i see somebody passing towards the front, following them to close down a potential break as they catapult off the front. took some time to shake that habit and also i have a tendency to surge on moderate climbs as i dont change gear and just grind it out, however this can lead to a short sharp rise in watts and a couple of times I shot off a bit too far in front.

i tried to drag the pack uo the climb but when i saw a gap behind a dropped off to fall back towards Brian and offer my wheel after hed dropped to pull zilog and sean back on.

Hope they were the right tactics even though it felt a bit on off on again at the time and probably lead to undue fatigue.

Its a good course that for a TT and i enjoyed Phils guidance and motivation on helping everybody keep and then finish together.

Im not getting any option to ride outdoors on week days for the time being so will try and join again.

For us, absolutely the right tactics, we're very much in the TTT for the Team bit so would rather come dead last with everyone over the line roughly together instead of dropping riders for a better time. Some days mind someone does go pop but we try avoid it.

i was convinced i had averaged more watts as i felt pretty knackered towards the end.

Not sure if it was as warm with you as it was here kirky but my W were a bit low (they're always low on the TTT due the over under nature of it) yet my HR was noticeably up, felt like my brakes were binding despite the fact there are none on my turbo. I wasn't entirely sure I wasn't having a heart attack by the time I finished on Thursday.
Combo of tired legs and high temp and humidity I guess.

No, it looks like @djflexure on his own, maybe with @yanboss

It's OK to start slowly, there's enough interest overall for it to get establish itself again.

Any more takers? Or shall we skip a week? Speak up now in sufficient numbers or I'll call it off later today...

Sorry - I know I've only just started doing them, but with the race series starting I am not sure I can justify more bike time, without it getting in the way of family life.
I'll try & join when I can, but would rather concentrate on the races & workouts for the moment, with a weekend 'real life' ride thrown in when I can.

@savoyad do you know if there is a current list of the upcoming event courses? I had one for the first half of the year. Just wondered what else we have coming up.

It looks like this:

23 September Greater London Flat 29km
30 September volcano flat, 37km
7 October innsbruckring 27km
14 October Watopia Flat 30km
21 October Richmond UCI 32km
4 November RGV 25km
11 November Figure 8 Reverse 29km
18 November Greatest London Loop 26km
25 November Watopia Hilly 37km
2 December Tour of Tewit Well 21km
9 December Volcano flat reverse 37km
16 December Knickerbocker reverse 22km
23 December Greater London 8 24km
30 December Out and Back Again 42km

You can get to it on wtrl/events/filter by future. They sometimes make changes - one of these might be the worlds on a different course I guess, and makuri could be swapped in.

Another early excuse, more of a PSA - I'm into my second day of man flu, so when/if I start to drop don't even break stride or try to persuade otherwise, I will be in a puddle of snot on the floor.

@haloric There's no reason for anyone to get dropped this evening unless you're feeling really unwell - the course is as flat as a pancake, so just make sure you stay in the draft at 5th/6th wheel and you'll get pulled around.

No worries @slowpuncheur, hope you feel better soon. This means you are in, @scaredypants, if you can get home in time.

@drew I'm seeing you as entered, but it's not confirming the start pen. Can you check you are in pen A here: https://www.wtrl.racing/zwift/zwiftsignon.php?id=WHNqY0d0ZWdOb1Y4MmF2dTZHUW5Jdz09

Full lineup will be @haloric, @dangeourbrain, @yanboss, @phil56, @robbo1234biking, @scaredypants, @djflexure and @drew

Start delay 3 mins.

No worries @drew. WTRL is unpredictable sometimes. You can see the phantom entry (yourself only in that view) here probably: https://www.wtrl.racing/ttt/TTT-team-management/ I hope your back settles soon.

That means there is one spare slot available if anyone want to jump in last minute:
pen A, https://www.wtrl.racing/zwift/zwiftsignon.php?id=WHNqY0d0ZWdOb1Y4MmF2dTZHUW5Jdz09, 3 minute time delay, the plan is: phil on the front, Brian 3rd wheel, everyone else at 5 and 6.

Sorry about this evening lads - reminded myself of a job for my week off next week though:

Might turn out to be an expensive Easter for me – trainer’s gone very notchy and the power’s all over the place … but if I’m lucky it’s just accumulated bits of dust/drive belt/brake material (or maybe it’s all just magnetic, who knows).

I reckon it has overheated which would make sense as this is the first non-freezing ride I’ve done in ages. Just maybe a good blowout’ll “fix” it for another few years of zero maintenance 🙄
Posted 5 months ago

So, crap workman always blames his tools total lack of maintenance. Again, it was warm in the garage and things started to go weird after about 10-15 min.

Anyone clever at the electronics?

It's not what I thought, seems to be more than just the trainer:

My heart rate also had pretty much simultaneous dropouts down to zero, and surely that connects direct to the PC ?
Wonder if it's my dongle letting me down (I am a gentleman of a certain age, after all !) but I don't see why it should start 15 minutes into a ride. Could it be the PC overheating and failing to receive properly. How would that fit with not seeing the bunch ? (I lost you for what felt like 5 minutes and was just riding at constantish power, speeeding up whenever it said "close the gap" - no idea why that should still show up when you lot had disappeared 🤷‍♂️ )

Very much doubt its a heat thing, much more likely to be the dongle. How are you connecting bt or ant+? Running discord (bt headphones?) from another device or also pc?

I'd say try another dongle first.

Probably a brief drop of the bt connection and then spiralling from there.

Cheers db
ant+ for everything (trainer & HR)
Yes discord but no wireless for that. The setup worked fine in last week's RobboRace and that was without discord but my connection is wired these days and speed seems to be fine when tested.
It's a "proper" PC and I don't run fancy settings on zwift
Maybe I'll look for a new dongle as that'd be the cheapest fix. I def still need to clean out the trainer innards though

Hi all

3 laps of volcano flat - sign up here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E_0I0hulOaE2y34RpjckVCoT2Jks16vypeZ98L_LUw8/edit?usp=sharing

@scaredypants it's possible that it takes 15mins for the PC to get hot enough that it speeds up the internal fans. The increased EMI could be enough to kill the Ant+ signal. Is the dongle direct into the PC? If so try using a shielded usb extension cable to bring it closer.

There are some other tips worth trying on zwiftalizer (load the zwo file from the failed event and see what it says).

thanks nixie - going to try a couple of dodges & see

Dongle is on an extension lead (is it a decent one? try swapping that)
I do have a BT dongle somewhere so maybe I'll try that instead of ANT

have never used zwiftalizer. WIll def take a look

We are going to have between 5 and 7 riders tonight by the looks of it. Last did Innsbruckring in April and it is around 40 minutes for the 3 laps.

Welcome @scaled!

Everyone enter pen A here: https://www.wtrl.racing/zwift/zwiftsignon.php?id=S0U1MVpVVWFlTGp0cXZSL25jU2xqUT09

start delay is 5.5 minutes - so in the pen by 19:40 and off at 19:45:30

I think the team is @phil56, @slowpuncheur, @robbo1234biking, @haloric, @scaled plus hopefully @dangeourbrain and @djflexure

Has someone explained the start process to @scaled?

I should be able to keep up on the flat, if I can advise anything its to stay close/behind on the leg snapper, and I won't have to die keeping up there.

Sorry guys, the increase in effort on the leg snapper burnt all my reserves.

I'm never quite sure why we need to increase so much on the climb, but I was in the red for the whole thing - still enjoyed it - got to get the weight down to be competitive I think..

We came 267th out of 534 teams with a time of 41:03 officially.

Our times for each lap were:

13:26
13:28
13:25

So pretty consistent really!

Its a good point Haloric but I dont think it is intentional. Everyone likes to attack the climbs and it ends up a bit like an over under with the climbs being just over. The issue being that we are taking you too far into the red on the climbs.

The good news is that next week is the watopia flat route.
