Thinking about this for Zwifting to replace the Parkwood.... From what i can see they were £550 or so new... but would do a reasonable job on the turbo i think ?

Bikes are in fairly short supply currently so prices are higher than you'd ideally want, so the price he'd take is £350. Local to me so could be done quickly and easily.

The seller is wearing socks with some form of slipper thing, so no, don't buy from them. Otherwise, if it fits you, does it matter what the frame is, its not going anywhere. 8speed, may want to upgrade if you ever take it on the road. factor in the sensors for zwift, and a proper tyre if on a turbo.

Looks fine for Zwifting. With 8 speed, might need a spacer if you've got a direct drive turbo trainer?
I think a road bike chainset and frame is better/more comfortable for zwifting.

Not keen of guys choice of socks and footwear though - this could be a deciding factor?

Wheel on trainer, smart, so nothing apart from cadence sensor for the bike needed.

It'll do the job. I'd only question the compact bars he's using i.e. the curl is very tight. If you've got big hands that might be a bit of an issue. The benefit of compact is that the drops are not that much lower than the tops/hoods so better for transitioning from MTB bars.

Ah, never noticed that.... i can't imagine riding on the drops on an indoor bike gives much/any benefit anyway ?

Looks fine to me, but I've not heard of the brand before.

Just make sure that you are confident it will fit right - the turbo trainer certainly brings out discomfort & niggles more than riding on the road - I guess because you are completely stationary & the bike doesn't move under you.
I suppose you have more ability to adjust things as it's not going to affect the handling of the bike - e.g a much shorter stem won't affect stability etc....

For £350 ballpark, have you looked at the Halfords road bikes, including the incoming new Carrera range such as the top model https://www.halfords.com/bikes/road-bikes/carrera-vanquish-mens-road-bike-2020---red---s-m-l-frames-348526.html ?

Or maybe build up a frame for turbo duties, such as the Bootzipper 29er or one of the last remaining 59cm PX Pro Carbon XLS?

Ebay bike looks ok from photos, at 183cm (from Zwiftpower stats) I suspect you might need to flip that stem and perhaps even replace with a longer one.

Bike seems to stand well on gravel, concrete and grass. Go for it.

It'll be fine. And I know what you mean about availability/price right now. But bear in mind that's basically the new price for an entry level road bike of that kind of spec (with shiny, more up to date components) in Halfords/Decathlon etc so if you can find stock somewhere, something similar but new would probably make more sense. (Sora went up from 8 to 9 speed in 2009, which is how I'd be dating that bike with no further info.)

While it's a sellers market at the moment that does seem pricey to me, especially compared to the £380 I got yesterday for a 2010 Boardman Team Carbon on 10-speed Rival via facebook marketplace. I'd originally listed it at £400 but didn't get much interest, but when I lowered the price slightly it was gone in a couple of hours.

Looks good to me 👍👍

Big chainring on the front looks spot on

The Yorkshireman in me would want a bit off the price...

Weeksy I know someone selling a Forme Thorpe 2014 or so in that size with Rival & Aksiums, I've asked for the price and will post up when I have it.

Not seeming like a wonderful bargain then. He's gone quiet at the moment anyway after a few messages. So i guess i'm hanging fire at the moment.

Carbon too, and as of course its very good for the road also I have a Turbo tyre on a wheel hanging up doing nothing so if your interested I'll throw that in for you.

The owner is 5'10 so it'll fit you.   He wanted £650 but let me know if you want to make a offer.

@weeksy I've got an 2004 Trek 1200 laying around in the shed you can have, 58cm 9 speed tiagra ali frame, carbon wrap fork - missing a couple of bits (seat clamp, qr and rear brake iirc) but was my turbo bike up until 3 years ago and has done nothing since... If you are interested I can send a few photos and check the mice haven't eaten it 🙂

I worked in a shop that sold those mekks when they were new, most of them had bent mech hangers out the box and the replacement ones came pre-bent... Then you tried to bend them straight and they snapped.
