Did workout 1 yesterday as was meant to be racing, but Zwift..you know... meh...

Was a good workout with actually pretty good bants!!

I'm planning on Workout 2 on monday eve.

Just wondering... and of course this could go in the social rides group, but we COULD organise STW Zwift workouts according to the academy schedule??

Thoughts?

If people are interested, I'll cancel my group ride on monday and create a meetup for STWers...??

I'm doing it, booked in workout 2 for Thursday night at 8. quite like the volume of people on the official group rides (distracts a bit from the brutal nature of it)

I almost signed up the Zwift academy, but then didn't bother.

Last time I followed one of their training thingies, I did the 12 week FTP builder & at the end of it I gained...drum roll................2w 🙂

Which put me off bothering with anymore of their training stuff.
Completely irrational I know & I definitely felt a lot fitter, so think it was probably more of a calibration thing than anything else.

At least these involve cycling!

Look, if you want to talk about bikes there's a perfectly good forum at Gov.Uk

I'm already doing them, workout 1 done and group ride (AKA full on race mode) 1 done. Got the 2nd workout booked in for 7am Friday morning which may be a bad idea but I'm having to squeeze things in right now, I have the TTT tomorrow night and the "Saturday hills" ride on Saturday morning.

I may not be able to give my best sprint effort on Friday....

I'm doing them, I'd be up for a forum workout session if it avoided Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm not sure the group workout added much as there were too many there but a bit of social was/would be good.

Did you do it in ERG mode DrP? How did you find it, did it sort itself out during the 6 and 10 second segments?

Usually I find mine takes a bit of time to calm down and often lose stars because of it.

I'm assuming it's full on "sprint as fast as you can" during the freeride sections...

It's ERG for the "5 min at 145w at 90rpm" sections... then I think it turns ERG off, and you have 30 seconds to find a gear/cadence on the lead into the sprint, then just 'effing go for it' for 6/10/20 seconds.

Never found myself spinning the turbo out. I think the 30 second lead in is the important bit.. I cruised at about 80rpm, equalling about 240w... then jsut went for it..

Yeah I'm in again. Did it in 2017 but didn't bother with the last few as it was too early in the year to do less IRL rides. Already done WO 1-3 and done 1 group ride which because it was female only meant they stuck to the pace religiously, borrrrrrring! Don't bother with group workouts as I'm too knackered to chat anyway and Id rather see my speed not the combined elasticity speed!

Dunno why you'd need to spend 30 seconds to find a gear/cadence combo. The way ERG mode works is no matter what gear you're in it adjusts the required pressure/resistance. I spent all of WO 2 in pretty much 3rd smallest cog so as soon as ERG got turned off my cadence was already high enough and the resistance got slammed up and I was forcing the pedals round. No mad gear changing ruining your gears.

Good to hear GolfChick, I usually ERG in 3rd smallest cog anyway, so should be good.

I guess it's more down to the way ERG mode works in practice rather than in theory. If you've got a good steady pedaling motion and cadence I think you'll be fine as you suggest as it'll work as it should.
[zwift] Erg mode for me needs a very short gear so my wobbly cadence doesn't mess it up so I end up in about 32:24, trying to sprint in that would be flatly ridiculous so I'd need to switch onto big ring and most of the way down the cassette before the sprint started.

It was down for me at home last night and this morning, so I turned off wifi on my phone to 4G and it worked. Works fine in the office too. I put it down to some block on my wifi, it might not be the case...
