What's it got on it now, what are you going to do with it?

What tyres are on there now, what do you find shocking about them, where do you ride, how much do you want to spend ?

I left the Mountain King 2.4 up front, put a Mountain King 2.4 Protection on the rear. Happy with them as an all round tyre.
Haven't tried any others except the 2.2 X-King that was on the rear wheel from new, which was rubbish.

IIRC they came with Conti Race Kings on them? Mine lasted 1 ride before they went in the bin!

High roller 2.35 front, ardent 2.25 rear is my fave combo on the zesty. Ardent not so good in mud and is bigger than the hr if that bothers you.

The new Mountain King 2 (protection) is a fab all rounder, unless your riding is really rocky.

In which case Maxxis Minion DHF front and rear.

I think they might come with some variety of Hutchinson tyres now? Any road the correct answer is Rubber Queens (Black Chili 2.2's, either UST or not depending what decade you are living in).

Pair of WTB Bronsons on mine in 2.3 cracking tyres. Front end breakaway is progressive and recoverable usually, and not the "wow this bikes on rails one second then sat on the floor poking mud out of the vents in your helmet with a stick the next"

Spesh Storm Control 2bliss, fit like a dream on the XT rims that came with the 2010 Zesty 514. Slant 6 front Block 8 rear when it's bone dry for 3 weeks in the summer.

Might give the bronsons a try though.

Rubber Queen Black Chilli 2.2 up front, with a CrossMark 2.1 on t' rear.

If you're a bit girly about grip and all that at the back, then slap another Rubber Queen on the back, or a Maxxis Advantage 2.1 instead.

I'm a firm believer in the Rubber Queen way up front now, having just converted. I like the fast running of the CrossMark - but appreciate the driftyness isn't to everyones liking - they climb pretty well though.

ETA, as you can see: [img] [/img]

Hi I should of said the current tyres are conti mountain king 2.4 up front and a conti race king 2.2 on the rear. I need a good all rounder especially in the wet. Thanks.

Good choices there Neil - I'm now running a pair of Minions on my Edison with a Crossmark for the rear on smoother/faster races.

Pretty much that was the standard config out at SuperEnduro - with either a RQ or Minion up front and a Crossmark or Small Block 8 out back.

I was running a WTB Moto up front and a Weirwolf out back which also has nice slidey characteristics.

Embrace the drift.......

The Race King that came on the back of my Zesty made me believe I had magically forgotten everything I ever knew about bike handling.

Anyone who says tyres don't make a difference should be forced to ride on one of them.

High Rollers front and rear now and no probs.

Race King

That tyre is like having Jedi's nemesis constantly on your shoulder...... How to instantly turn a capable rider into an absolute Joey!!!

I'd put a Rubber Queen 2.2 black chili on the front and swap your Mountain King 2.4 to the rear.

2.4 high roller on the front and a 2.2 Conti MK2 on the rear. I kept the 2.4 MK that came with the bike on until recently. It started slipping on the rim under heavy braking and taking the tube with it. Until then i thought it was a pretty decent tyre.

The Race King on the rear came off after my first wet ride, and has never been put back on again.

My Zesty came with the Hutchinson tyres... bag of shite. Second ride out the front split along the rim. Third ride out the back did the same.

Maxxis 2.25 UST Ardent up front, Maxxis 2.1 UST Advantage at the back. Grippy, fast and cuts through mud. Perfect for the Northern half of this country.

My 2012 Zesty came on the Hutchinson tyres, they lasted the distance from the back of my car to the house (about 15feet)! Replaced by NN's all round (not the grippiest, but i find them really consistent)

BTW, if you have a carbon 2012 Zesty or spicy, take a good look at how the cable for the rear derailiure runs under the chainstay. Mine had rubbed clean through the carbon!

This hasn't made the decision any easier. Such a variety of choice. I like the look of the WTB bronsons or the Hans Dampf's.

Just get the HD's from bike-discount as a pair on their €60 offer and run them tubeless, mine have worked great (on a Zesty also) in dry/loose/rocky Spain, slatey/gravelly North Wales, Brecon Beacons and local hard-packed trails. They aren't great on roads or deep gloopy mud but unless that's the majority of your riding you won't find a better combo atm (and I've run RQ BCs, Rampages, Bonty FR4s, HR's, Advantages and Crossmarks on mine)
