Hey Guys,

My Zee rear mech destroys gear cables at an alarming rate. Cutting through the wires at the clamp point.

Anyone else having this issue?

I was pondering trying to stick in a thin piece of rubber tubing or similar to try and alleviate the issue, and even eyed up my metal file for a while to try and smooth things out. Anyone have any success?

Cheers

Do you have the clamp plate on the right way round - sounds like its possibly on at the wrong 90 degree rotation, so goinging the cable as it moves... maybe ....

My saint used to do this, just file a tiny groove in the edge of the removable plate where the cable grips and you'll be fine

Sounds like an issue with the angle the cable approaches the mech at, that metal is hard but fatigues fast when flexed.

yes I've come to the conclusion that newer mechs clamp edges are sharper, the angle isnt straight in all gears and also the extra pull force required from the clutch doesn't help.

Retaining plate is okay and cable runs straight under the plate, no bends.

Will try and file a better groove, looks like the gear cable has already started making its own new groove!

Agree that the clutch won't be helping matters, seems to be more tension in cable than previous derailleur.

Cheers
