a very long time ago i put some zee cranks on my old heckler. im sure they came with washers to go between the cranks and the pedal axle.
are these washers needed for protecting the cranks? are they just to space the pedals out a bit (1.5mm or something)
i have just given them to someone and im wondering if i need to try and find these washers or not
ta
They're fine without. Unless you have crappy square edged spanner only type pedals like you get on a BSO. Round ended pedals don't need them.
IME always put a washer on, no matter who makes the crank.
You'll remember this, when you can't get the pedal off one day...
I always go with what they are designed/supplied with... some do and some don't. The Zee/Saint I use them and they have a recessed ring for them to fit.
Can be bought for a few pence on ebay (the washers, not the cranks)
(Just checked and blimey prices have gone up since I bought some! 5 pairs for £3 from China seems to be the best deal now. 🙁 )
I've built thousands of bikes and they all used to go straight in the bin.
Only ever used them if they provided and if i remember.
Never failed to get a pedal off because i didn't. Never even failed to get one off if someone else didn't put a washer on.
(also built hundreds of bikes over the years)
Wow, people must really not like your bikes
what's the issue?
