Anyone going to this? Anyone been before and can recommend how early to turn up to be able to try out a Capra 29er? Since there's no booking a test and it's first come first serve, I can imagine it would be quite the crapshoot.

I'm going tomorrow, looking to test a Jeffsy Pro race 28 in size XXL, and maybe the 27.5 version too.

I'm guessing there won't be any posted test routes, I'll probably ride the freeminers trail to get a good all round idea of how they ride.

I bet they are going to lock their bikes up a bit better this time. Was it not last year when they all got stolen from FOD?

Was up there today, looked busy with long queues and wait times for demo's, they did have everything there, and folk were testing them everywhere, from the blue to downhill runs, i'm guessing they had a time limit, as a few folk were asking how long it takes to get back from areas on the red/blue trails when i was out.

I'm driving from Kent, hoping to be there by 10ish, so long as I can try the 29 jeffsy I'll be happy, would really like to try the 27.5 too though as I'm not 100% sold on a 29er yet...

Was also there today. Utter Shambles. Travelled from IoW, so 0430 start for us. Got there at 0910. They opened at 0930. Already a queue of 30-40. All bikes were out by time we got to end of queue. Can’t register your details (ID and cc) until bike is available. They don’t issue time slots. Bikes are on a one hour demo. This meant we had to wait until 1130 to get a ride on a bike in the wrong size. If you wanna ride a XL or XXL......good luck!
This has no reflection on bike itself. It was frikkin’ awesome! (Decoy)

I got there today at 9:30 and left at 16:30, managed 2 rides!
Get there early or last thing, it was quieter after 3pm.

If someone would kindly go, stand in the queue all day and then tell me if at 6ft and 32” leg I should go l or XL in 29 Jeffsy and if the white or red pro looks better.

Just echoing the earlier comments. I was there yesterday unrelated to the demo day and the queues were savage.

In a completely unrelated question, the fod trail map now includes a proposed extension that looks to cover some of the enduro route. Anyone know about this? Can we expect new waymarked stuff?

Damn, does sound like a bit of a crapshoot then! Not sure if it's worth going up tomorrow morning then. I would like to demo a Capra 29er but not sure if I want to enough to get up super early and potentially wait in line for hours.

Just got back from my test of the XXL Jeffsy Pro race.

https://flic.kr/p/TNduvh

Yes the queue when I got there was fairly long, I was in the queue at 10:30 and it took an hour to get a bike, the key is to look at what's available on the screens and then if no one in front wants it, jump the queue. A lot of the queue is people waiting for bikes to come back.

Apart from the wait it's well managed IMO.

As for the bike, there's a couple of things I'd change, like the gearing - being used to 32/46 on a 27.5,the same gearing on a 29 saw me struggling up hills as there was no low gear to just spin. Also I'd put on a slightly higher rise bar. Other than that, it's bloody fast, climbs really well, and once you let the brakes off on a fast flowing tail it damn takes off. Oh and it's far more agile than my 140mm travel 27.5 bike.

I want to try the 27.5 version but I also sort of don't because I don't think I need too, the 29 is all the bike I want!!!

Edit: the queue now is 8 people, it was 3x that this morning.

Your dimensions tall Paul? Reachwise the large looks sufficient for me at 6ft 32” legs?

That's an XXL, I'm 6ft 3 and ride an XL vitus escarpe, it's got 15mm more reach than my bike but felt instantly at home. You could size up to an XL or go for an L. I could fit a 170mm dropper with room to spare on the XXL.

I was worried about the bike being less agile being a 29er and so long, but I needn't have worried!

Well I was up there today about 1.30 and it was pretty quiet. Only about a dozen in the queue

Yeah I would have just been coming back then, you were probably in the queue when I was posting on here!

I had a little lap on my own bike after, I was quicker on the little descents but I put that down to only having ridden the Jeffsy for an hour, over the rooty sections my bike was far far more harsh, and slower, and I could really notice the difference when climbing, much harder work and slower. Oh and it was far easier to keep the front end down when climbing on the Jeffsy, mine was wanting to lift much more.

I'm sold! 😀

The new Jeffsy does look nice.
I was lucky when I demoed the older ones because I came away still preferring my MK1 Capra - phew.

Anyone happen to try a carbon Jeffsy in both 27.5 and 29. Quite fancy one but having only owned 27.5 bikes thats feeling the safer bet. Plus the 10% discount on that model helps

I was going to, but after trying the 29 I didn't see the point!

I've demo'd about 7 bikes over the past year, and every 29er I tried, I preferred the 27.5 model or equivalent. For example, a top spec wyte s-150 and middle spec t-130, I preferred the t-130.

All the 29ers I've tried have been sluggish in tight singletrack, reluctant to turn.

The light carbon wheels on the Pro Race might have been a factor but the Jeffsy 29 is the most agile and fun 29er I've tried. It honestly didn't feel like a 29er at all. Apart from the ease at which it climbed and the speed it gathered.

My current bike is a 27.5, my next week be a 29er Jeffsy.

*disclaimer - I'm 6ft 4in so a 29er makes sense for me, if you're short it might not be right for you.

I joined the queue at 8:45 and got my first demo at 11:30! The wait time for my second demo was similar but worth it as it’s shown me that the website size recommendations aren’t always right. I’m between sizes and felt much more comfortable on the Medium Decoy than the large.

Wait times weren’t helped by some people taking the piss and hanging on to the bikes for much longer than an hour.

I had a read through the Jeffsy spec , 175mm cranks- seems odd on a long low slack type bike .

I've just arrived and there's about 20 people in the queue including me, just in case anyone is coming today!

Went on Friday, ended up waiting nearly 4 hours for a bike for my mate! I've came in that was likely to small for him (m 29 Jeffsy 29) so I grabbed it, a few minutes later he asked about the availability of the L he wanted and turns out they had a few out back that weren't marked on the board! Grrrr.
Bit peeved tbh.

I wasn't really that interested in buying, went along to keep him company and out of intrigue, but the 29er had really piqued my interest. It was so rapid, and a hell of a lot of fun. I'm going to give my bike a good beating today on some local trails to try to convince me I don't need to sell it. (Not helped by riding a coil sprung Sentinel yesterday either...)

I did get a couple of pedal strikes on the rooty climb section which I didn't on my own bike, running the flip chip in the high position should on the pedally trails.

But do you not think it would have been the same situation? You’d have found the 27.5 even better?

When I say I preferred the 27.5 bikes, I meant I didn't like any of the 29ers I tried (prior to the Jeffsy). I've been thinking about going to go to a 29er for my next bike and the only thing stopping me would have been the agility or lack of. I don't really need the extra agility of the 27.5, I'd rather have the enhanced speed/rollover etc of the 29er.

Just got back from demoing a Capra CF Pro 29. Unfortunately I had to take out a medium as the large and xl were already in use so it did feel a bit small and the dropper wasn't long enough for me, but it was pretty good overall. I definitely do prefer 29 wheels. I don't think I got the most out of it though as only having an hour definitely puts pressure on you to get out there and just ride anything at all, so I didn't do a lot of technical stuff except for part of a descent of freeminers.

While I did like the Capra as a bike, it wasn't a mindblowing, eye opening experience like I had when I demoed a Transition Sentinel, but I'm glad I went. Also getting a free water bottle for my Jeffsy is a bonus!

Have to say I thought it was great. Really well done IMO. Got there early on Saturday because it’s obviously going to be busy. Was there at 8:15 anticipating said queues. They opened up at 8:45, not the 9:30 stated above. Great guys. Capra CF Pro 29 was a great bike and definitely in the list for the next time I upgrade
