Hi,
Im looking into getting a YT capra 29er. Im 6'1 so the sizing chart suggests I should be on an XL however I saw a MBR video where he suggest a person upto 5'11 would get the best out of this size
Im currently riding a 2015 lapierre zesty.
Any advice appreciated
Tom
At 6ft 1, you could ride either the XL or the XXL, depending what you want from the bike (so long as you can fit the 170mm dropper) - but the capa 29 is sort of mae for going fast downhill so you may want to size up.
I'm 6'3" and ride an XXL Jeffsy 29, feels perfect for me at 510mm reach. I could fit any 200mm+ post with no issues, at 2" shorter, even on the XXL capra with the 490mm seat tube (485mm on my jeffsy) 170mm dropper should be no issue.
its confusing because the reach of my current bike is 472 compared to 480 in an xl capra
however the top tube length is 650 compared to 654 on a capra
I think you meant 645mm TT length on the Capra. It's shorter than the Zesty because the Capra seat tube angle is steeper, so I think the XL Capra will probably feel a wee bit shorter than the XL Zesty when you're in a seated pedalling position.
Looking at the geometry of the Capra and comparing it to my large Bird Aeris AM9 (500mm reach), I would have you on the XXL. I'm just a tad taller and the fit of the Bird is spot on, plus my neighbour and a mate are also riding large AM9's and they are both around the same height as you.
My AM9 has a 470mm seat tube and my 175mm dropper has at least 25mm of post still showing so the 490mm seat tube and 170mm dropper on the Capra should be fine.
I’m 6ft and I’m on an XL Capra. I have also ridden an XL AM9.
I found the reach on the AM9 too much for me.
Where as the 480mm on my Capra feels perfect.
Tom, I’m going to confuse you a little further because I’m 6ft 3” and have owned an XL Jeffsy 27.5 for the last couple of years and have pressed buy it now on an XL Capra 27.5
I do prefer a slightly smaller frame to be fair, so probably my preference for an XL over an XXL
I'm just shy of 6'1" and found the XL Capra perfect when I tried one on a demo day. I think it depends on whether you prefer the longer reach of the XXL for descending or a more comfortable slightly more upright seated position with the XL. Personally I prefer the later but the XL certainly didn't feel like it needed more reach when I was descending.
Thanks for all the responses, I went for it and ordered an xl today.
It seemed pretty close in size to what I have already, and similar size to a different bike belonging to someone I ride with
Now to wait for it to arrive...
