Hi all
I've got a 2018 YT Capra, with internal cable routing.
It's now time to replace the inner and outer gear cable, as the shifting has gone poor. Tried just replacing the inner and it only lasted a ride or two.
Now, I believe my cables are lagged in something similar to pipe lagging, to stop rattling noises.
What's the best way of threading the new cable through this lagging without it bunching up at one end. I normally just tape the outer cable to an inner cable and pull it through the frame, but I fear this won't work. And I don't want the new cable rattling about.
Any ideas please? Thanks
Do you have the Carbon or Al version? I just changed the gear cable on my 2018 Capra AL and tried taping and pulling through, but it didn't work. Assume you have carbon as mine didn't have any internal lagging.
I removed the forks to give myself room and to be able to see inside. I then threaded the outer cable up from the hole under the shock until it arrived at the headtube, then the hard part was threading the cable through an internal guide around the headtube. It was really fiddly, but the best thing is I did was getting a light in there and angling the frame so I could see where it was and then used a thin torx key to guide it in to the internal guide and out. Threading the other end through the swing arm was a breeze. Just undo the 2mm allen (IIRC) bolt at the mech end which lets you remove the plastic guide, then fed the cable in the other end and used the torx key to lever the cable up when it appeared.
I was going to replace the dropper cable too, but I'd had enough by that point so I'll save that for another day.
