Been looking at new bikes and am being drawn to the yt Capra Base 29 for 2k or the Capra comp for 2.8k.

A friend has had Capra for a few years now and it's been faultless.

I love my orange five but to get a similar spec on a new five I probably will have to spend 5k and I can't justify the cost.

Is there anything else to consider around the Capra price point?

I've got a 2018 Capra cf pro 27.5 and its been excellent. It rides really well, I love the massively progressive rear suspension and the way it just smooths out drops and (normally) harsh landings. I think it pedals quite well, but you do need a shock with a climb switch of some sort.

I've had a few minor 'issues' with it, I dont class these as big deals but YMMV:-

1. When it arrived the rear brake needed bleeding, I think this is because of the internal routing, they break the hose from the lever to fit it to the bike, but I dont think they bleed them.

2. Just before it was two years old the raceface cranks failed - the crank insert bonding to the crank arm failed - but it was replaced by silverfish really quickly under warranty. This seems to be a recurring theme with these cranks, so I suspect the replacement set will do the same sooner or later.

3. I've had a few spokes break in the rear wheel over the years.

Radon swoop 170 if you particularly want a long travel 29er.

The alu version is very reasonably priced and the new carbon one is not that much more.

I have the alu one and it rides great on fast or steep stuff but it's not a trail bike.

Propain tyee in aluminium? I’ve been eyeing up a carbon version as my next bike but feel a bit in between sizes.
Any way it’s not about me!
Looks like you can get a lot of bike for the cash
