So what do folks like for mixed on/off road touring? Have drops currently and rarely use the dropped position (too uncomfortable and actually don't feel as in control as on hoods)
I've used Woodchippers and find that the extra width and flare-out makes them pretty comfy for touring - and introduced a bit more stability on fast tarmac descents. I have them on the Amazon all the time now.
The El Mariachi was built up with on/off road touring in mind and that just sports flat bars with Cane CreekErgo barends. I have a set of Aero bars I might try out for longer road trips (or trips with long road sections) too.
The 9ZERO7 had Jones Loop bars fitted for a while. They play very well with handlebar roll-bags and the sweep makes them very comfy with a range of hand positions.
I've not tried Trekking/Butterfly bars yet.
What are trekking bars?
Mary?

Full of drunk Sherpas!
Midges for me. Comfy, plenty of positions.
Wow never knew there were so many variations to choose from....I'm more confused now
I had a Modolo Yuma butterfly bar. It was hideous, narrow and awkward large radius bends on the corners took up most of the available hand space. never again.
Using jones Cut-loops now, though not got an appreciable amount of miles on them yet to comment
I prefer slightly raised towards the hoods randonneur drop bars in that case ,loads of hand positions on these
The randonneur drop bars look the business....any other names these types of bars go by?
Midges for me as well.
Puzzled by the midge! Seen some pics which seem to have road levers with no hoods...is that standard setup?
Jesus...never looked into road bars before...there are more shapes and sizes than I can believe!
Midge bars on my CX/commuter/tourer which gets the most use.
I really like them ,even if the angle of the STI levers looks a bit strange.
Building up an off road tourer for next year and it will have Midge bars on it for sure.
Drops for me. Like anything take some time setting up you stem height and length for be results. If you've never redden with drops it can take a little getting accustomed to but not that long.
The Nitto Randonneur Drop Bar seems a good compromise.....any of the big companies (3T, Easton, FSA etc) making anything similar to midge or Nitto?
