Thinking of a Yorkshire Dales trip this Easter, is it worth taking road bike and MTB? Thinking of basing myself around Grassington and riding Buttertubs Pass on the road bike, is it possible to ride around Malham Cove off road? Anyone have gpx files to share?
You can ride around the back of the cove (Malham Tarn) and in and out of Malham, but there are no routes at the cove itself or passing the limestone pavements at the top. You wouldn't want to ride them anyhow, as they will be rammed with walkers.
What kind of riding do you like? - I'm sure we can point you at a decent route starting from Grassington.
The road riding is lovely around there. have a look at the yorkshire dales cycleway for an idea - stunning scenery.
MTB is also good, have a look at http://www.pedalnorth.com/content/yorkshire-dales-mtb-routes
I did exactly this about 10 years ago with a couple of pals, stayed at the New Inn, Appletreewick when John Pitchers was running it. On day one we did a route that's on the Yorkshire Dales mtb routes guide mentioned by slack boy, took us towards Malham then loop round over Barden Moor. Second day we did the Yorkshire Dales cycleway. Had a great time with some excellent riding
