I’ve just bought a SB95c expecting the same super plush rear as my SB66c but on its maiden ride yesterday found it to be very harsh needing a good thump to get the suspension moving. Is it the fault of the Fox CTD shock? I have it on ‘descend’ and also increased the sag to try and make it plusher.

is it new or second hand? if its new it could just need a few rides to bed the seals in, if its second hand it could be any range of problems, worn bearings, bushings, no service on shock etc

It's new.

would certainly expect that the shock will take a little bedding in before you get a nice plush ride from it.

I've got a new one with a kashima ctd trail adjust shock. I've got a bigger volume spacer in there and about 30% sag and it's pretty plush. I can ride all day in T while D is pretty active but doesn't bottom out too much.

if you let all the air out does it move freely through the travel?

On a slight tangent...I'm very, very tempted by an SB95C and have been for some time.

Where did you get it from and did you get it at a good price now that the model/frame has been discontinued from the line up?

What size did you get?

I loved my ASR5C but fell in love with big wheels and felt the SB95C would be it's replacement. I'm just concerned on the sizing aspect as the ETT (and subsequent reach surely) are shorter.

Not sure what you'd be testing there jam bo? If I remove the shock the swingarm moves freely up and down. Is that what you're getting at?
On the downhills I was getting almost full travel as was the fork.

You may have a smidgen too much air in the shock. They are, by all accounts, a little more sensitive to inaccurate shock setup.

If it doesn't bed in after a few rides then send the shock off for warrantly, I had to do that on my ASR5 as the air can was damaged from new.

I was also looking for one of these in xl and was also worried about the shorter reach.

Hey, King Of Biccies, I test rode a SB95C last year and the top tube felt plenty long enough to me (5'10" on a medium, fairly average length arms and legs). I bought a SB5C this year and although it may be a little longer, it doesn't feel radically different.

Rhayter - how does the SB5C ride. Trying to decide between this and a Mondraker Foxy

CRC have a few left much cheaper than Merlin. I got mine from them a few months ago and it's got the full kashima ctd trail adjust shock although the website doesn't mention this. The rp23 ones are under a grand.

@olibluegoat: The SB5C is bloody awesome, frankly. Soooo much grip. Climbs amazingly well (and I'm not a great climber), turns tightly when you need it (I've got a Big Top 29r and the difference between the two on switchbacks is remarkable). When it really comes to life is pointed downhill. So confidence inspiring. It's light too: 27.3lbs with pedals and a dropper.
