Hello. Currently running GX chain with NX cassette and NX cranks, which works really well with SLX rear mech and shifter (12 speed).

Now looking at new build with SLX cranks instead of NX but keeping the NX cassette ideally. Can I also keep the GX chain or do I need to change to a Shimano chain?

Or would neither new configurations work well?

Or should I use a KMC X12 chain?

Not a SRAM guy but the only benefit from using a Shimano chain would come from using a Shimano cassette as well to get the HG+ shifting under load capability, plenty run Shimano 12sp with different brand chains for some reason.

Aside from obvious possible mismatch of wear between old and new, SRAM chain works fine on Shimano, I prefer it.

As far as I'm aware all bike cassettes have the same chain spacing. The only difference is the width to allow the chain to fit the different spacing between the cogs.

I run an ebike and a deore cassette with an X01 chain.

I highly recommend the X01 chain for anything as it doesn't rust and needs no wax or looking after. Just a squirt of gt85 every ride.

My question related to the chain ring, not the cassette. I just found out my friend runs a SLX 12 chainset with a GX chain quote nicely. I thought that wasn't possible but will now give it a go as that means I can keep my current tranny with SLX 12 chainset.
