Got a yari on my ebike
Thinking of a Yari Up to improve the damper - anyone tried one or should I go to a full rc2.1 ?

Thanks

I was put of the Up when even TF Tuned were struggling to explain the effect of splitting the adjustment to have that extra MSC dial. For now I've just put in an old Charger 2. OTOH I put a Novyparts Splug into my Revelation (they do a Yari sized one too), that seems to work very well and is far simpler (and cheaper)

My Novy Splug arrived this week for the Revelation on the hardtail. Not got round to fitting it yet but hoping it’ll make the noticeable difference that @mashr reports.

Thanks - not heard of the Splug. Looks like a good reasonable option!

I went with the Charger RC 2.1.
As above the MSC confused me on the Yari-Up, and reading seems to be more aimed at the additional weight of e-bikes.

Hadn't seen the Splug - but I paid that for the RC 2.1 damper on black Friday before Brexit from bike-discount

Charger 2.1 is a massive improvement over the mo-co that I originally had.

Splug is great (not tried others Tbf)

I wouldve like external hsc tho, would be my only gripe

also it has loads of 'clicks' of lsc adjustment, but you need to do 4 at a time to feel the effect

Maxime from Novyparts is great at answering any questions too - but he is very french so I had to cheat and use Google Translate

+1 for novyparts splug. Had mine in since the summer, I find it just allows me to rely on the damping to do it's thing and concentrate on getting the air spring set up perfectly. I got a digital shock pump at Christmas and it's been a revelation!

What does the novyparts splug end up costing when send to the UK.

Recently put a Yari Up in for my hard tail. Straight away it’s softer off the top with noticeable more pedal Bob and I’m catching my pedals. Certainly makes things less fidgety. Still trying to get my head around the MSC.

Cost me €138 Euros including postage, so about £117. Ordered and arrived in about a week, maybe slightly less.

Yeah I was around the £120 mark too. Quick delivery and decent instructions too. You will need for fork oil top raise the amount in the damper a bit, but otherwise it just drops in

Did you change to 10wt oil @mashr or just stick with the 5wt in the fork? Tempted to just leave 5wt in there and see what it’s like.

10wt for me although I've ended up running a bit less LSC than suggested.
Mine cost about 160 after Brexit charges.

Stayed with the 5, far too lazy to switch when you don’t have to

Just tried ordering a splug - computer says no!

Flipping Brexit.

Is it worth upgrading the damping on an e-bike fork? Just wondering as my impression is that the additional weight of an e-mtb seems to damp down suspension action to the point where subtle differences seem hard to notice and the thing just ploughs on through regardless.

I get your point BWD - and to be honest I'm impressed with the Yari (feels pretty good at lower speeds) but when it gets really choppy I notice it...and for a fairly cheap upgrade worth a punt

other bike has a Zeb Ultimate - which is of course much better at dealing with big chop - got to used to that!

Its not Brexit, it's the website I think. I had the same problem (wouldn't put through an order for other countries I tried too), emailed them, they said it should work fine, tried again and it went through with no issue for some reason. Worth an email

Did you email in English or French? I’ve had replies within a couple of days when I’ve been in touch

What with work and then a two week holiday I finally got round to fitting the Splug this morning. Apart from spilling 10w fluid over the patio, even a useless bike mechanic like me did the job start to finish inside 30 minutes.

Just taken it out for a 90 minute spin and am impressed. On 8 clicks out of a useable 32 and probably needs a bit more fine tuning but felt very composed on the fairly chunky trails. Well worth a punt if anyone is looking for a MoCo upgrade and doesn’t want to spend as much on a Charger.

Did you buy it stock or did novyparts custom shim it for you? I notice on the website it says they do custom stuff.

Also, worth emailing in English or French?

Have been running the splug on the rail for a month now. Very impressed and has transformed the fork - much more mid travel support and no harshness! I run the stock splug with 14 clicks of compression.
Email conversation all done in English!

The custom shimming isn’t needed anymore. Apparently the older design (plastic I believe) needed it but they now have all the adjustment you need as standard

Bought it stock @chrisdw, though there’s a form on their website that you can fill out once you have their order number. Not sure if he did any customisation as a result though.

I ordered in French though got my brother to sort it and pay in Euros (he’s lived in Paris 30 years) so didn’t have any translation issues to deal with. My French is adequate but not up to detailed queries on shims. Google translate is always a backup.

Edit. Forgot to say that I also swapped out from 5W to 10W oil as recommended.

And an update on my 160mm Yari Up. It seems a lot more sensitive to rebound set up than with the normal MC damper, and I run 6 clicks from slow. Can play around with the other settings but generally 4 clicks of LSC and 14 of MSC. Also found putting in 15 psi more gets the most out of the fork. I really need to do a proper fork service, check the oil level and bleed with the lowers off rather than the syringe off the top.

I've bought a cheap Yari from Wiggle, and already considering damper upgrade options...

Any updates on the 3 widely available options would be appreciated.

I've run a splug in a Yari and Boxxer for 4+ years and can't fault it. Feels much better than moco over fast chattery bumps. Dead easy to service too.

That's my preference at the moment, but I can see charger for similar price

Anyone have any experience of the MRP Ramp cartridge? Reduced on CRC for the Yard ATM - just wondering if they make much difference?

It’ll make a difference but isn’t going to help with the shortcomings of the damper.

Not a Yari but I fitted a Fast Up! Damper to my Rev RC.

Made a world of difference if I'm honest. I only bought it because it was lockdown and the only Charger that I could find was £400. I could have bought a Pike for that so plumped for the Rev Up!

Loved it from day one. The RC was so harsh over high frequency rough stuff that it used to make my vision go blurry.

Although the damper turned the fork around, it really did highlight how overly progressive the air spring was.

I couldn't tell much different between the Fast damper and the Charger 2.1. There's a huge difference in how they work but in terms of feel, I'd be lying if I said double the cost equalled double the performance.

The fast damper is basic. Really basic, but it does make the fork work how you probably think it should work from the beginning.

Found a charger rc2 at good money, less even than a Splug... It's in my favourites whilst I think about it.

Assuming it is the same fit there is a charger 2.1 rct3 for €130 for bike discount currently (ignoring tax and min order spend). Just order one to replace my pike's charger 2.1 RC.

Have the charger dampers come down in price? I bought a REV earlier in the year with the intention  of fitting the charger damper. At the time of purchase they were as rare as rocking horse poo and the ones that where available where going for about £360.

Another positive review for the Splug here. Much better than the MC damper.

Couple that with a full service and some low friction wiper seals and the Yari punches above it's price point.

Grabbed some of those cheap Yaris from CRC last week then saw this thread. Splug now ordered.

So, hopefully half decent new set of forks for less than 300 quid all in (and a bit of easy workshop time). Result.
