Just bought a Lapierre Zesty 427 with 150 travel Yari forks 650b and after reviewing them on line people seem to upgrade the dampers . Is it worth it and what is the best option , and will the average mtb rider such as myself notice any difference

Popping in a charger 2 damper is a good upgrade imo - I put in an rct3 harder, a debonair 2019 airshaft and stuck in new seals at the same time. Fork uses the travel better and I seem to get less arm fatigue.

Not cheap though - think I paid £40 for a service kit, £42 for the debonair air shaft and about £225 for the rct3 charger.

Stock Yari damper leaves a lot to be desired. It's workable maybe on a HT at 120/130 travel, on a full sus at longer travel, you'll quickly feel how the back end outperforms the front.

You can fit a Charger 2 damper, which effectively turns the fork into a Lyrik, but personally I'd go down the FAST YariUp route (speak to TFTuned), for £230 it is supposed to transform a Yari or Revelation fork!

Just to add I considered the Yari up but I think it was more expensive at the time I was looking and I concluded the charger was the better option after speaking to TF tunes about both options.

I can’t remember why exactly - I’ve a feeling the Yariup is more adjustable but the charger is likely to give a more consistent feel under hard use.

I'm seriously considering an RC2 damper upgrade for my Yari's. As above the work fine on my hardtail, but I want to extend the travel and put them on my full sus and for that I want a better damper than handles fast repeated hits better.

I suspect the Lyrik RC2 is going to come out top in the imminent MBKU/Bike Radar trail/enduro fork test.

For the record I ran a Yari for 2 years and loved it. I ditched the tokens and fitted a Luftkappe.

I’ve got a Debonair RC2 Lyrik now, it lovely, not far from night and day different.

I’ve got a charger 2 Lyrik/Yari upgrade damper sitting in a box in my office.
Got it secondhand with apparently 5 rides on it.
Never got round to fitting it.

I don't know why people always harp on about the Yari having a rubbish damper - it's quite basic in design but works pretty well most of the time. I don't find a massive difference between my Lyrik and my Yari except for on multiple hard hits (rock gardens and the like). Even then, I'm not sure you would be demonstrably faster on the Lyrik, unless it was on a very long, very rocky descent.

Watching this thread as just got some Yari's for my new build.
I usually have basic forks as I'm not a good enough rider to notice the differences on smaller settings.
Interested to hear thoughts on the Yari-Up and MRP ramp control though.

I came from a Pike to Yari put a luftkappe in and I was pretty happy with local stuff, which is quite soft and loamy even on the steep bits

but I found it hard going on long rocky stuff in wales, a lot of messing with tokens and pressure, but couldnt get happy, either jarring thru the wrists or diving too much

put in a novyparts damper and its been great, still took a while to get it right, but my last big day out in wales was great,

My 2018 Revelation (same Motion Control damper) was awful on repeated hits. I played around with pressures and tokens but the compression just didn't seem fit for task, leaving me battered on long descents.
I splashed out on the Charger damper and Debonair upgrade and the difference was palpable even though I'm not a particularly gnar rider. I say go for it.

Did the Charger 2 RCT3 plus Debonair spring upgrade to my Yari a month ago. Small bump sensitivity is much improved and the capacity to manage high speed roots and rocks is night and day. Basically, it's now a Lyrik.

Novaparts damper upgrade here, made a substantial improvement in performance when things get fast and rough.

Dirkpitt- I tried the Mrp ramp control in my Yari that’s had the debonair and rct3 charger treatment and the fork felt horrible. Not sure why - it just felt like it was less plush all the time. Even on its least ramping up setting which is meant to be like just over one bottomless token. I’d previously had the fork with 2 tokens and it was quite plush, but now down to 1 token and think I like it even more.

Very noticeable difference between the motion control and the charger damper. Do it. You won't regret it.

So any reports after upgrading? I’m expecting a new bike with a yari. Want to upgrade ASAP. I have an avalanche damper in my other yari and love it! But curious to try something different. I would love to try the YariUp for comparison to the avalanche stuff.

My Yari was great with a Charger damper and Debonair spring upgrade.

I’ve just swapped the damper into a new Yari but after a bit of faffing around now also have a Vorsprung Smashpot could conversion on the way so I’ll no longer have a direct comparison.

Quick question - how do you identify the model year of the fork?

Put the code stamped on the back of the crown into the Rockshox Trailhead app and it will tell you the model and year.

I’ll post back here when I get it back, but I’m currently having a ‘YariUp’ and a ‘Smashpot’ fitted to my Yari by TF.

They suggested it would be a better upgrade than the charger damper, when paired with a coil.

Looking forward to finding out.

Boing, just bumping this, any updates from folks? I've just picked up one of the Wiggle Yari forks, no immediate plans to upgrade but Id be interested in peoples longer term experiences.

Upgraded my Yasri a few times with the air side debonair parts. Worthwhile & cheap. But by far the biggest improvement was changing to the rc2.1 damper unit. Not cheap. But transforms the fork.

I had two Yaris to get three years and never saw the need to run them anything other than stock.

We have a Revelation on the wife's hardtail running at 120mm. I replaced the solo air shaft with the debonair air shaft when we got the bike and upgraded that with the new C1 spring.

At there weight, she needs about 70 psi. At that, the compression is way too damped and with the rebound fully open, it's only just quick enough.

I've been looking at hop up dampers for it but it really looks like I'll need to find something that covers rebound as well.

Also considering a Chickadeehill AWK 3rd air chamber for it.

My upgraded Yari has been great - 2019 debonair spring, charger 2 rct3 and skf seals. Also had the lowers sprayed red so they look epic.

I had a fs with 2014 Pike then n+1’d a ht with 2016 Yari. The Pike were miles better, much plusher to the point were if I had the choice now I’d wait until I could afford the better fork. New damper defo recommended.
