Benefits of XTR over XT

I’m looking at swapping out my SRAM shifter,, brakes and rear mech to Shimano. (I just prefer Shimano) I’ll keep the cassette.

Is there much of a performance and weight difference on XTR over XT? Bike is an Orange Four and mainly XC riding.

I’d go XTR shifter & XT elsewhere unless you’re desperate to save the few grammes.
The XTR shifter feels nicer, snappier action and smoother return (imo).
XT mech is a whole 38g heavier.
Mind you, I’ve got an XTR shifter, cranks & mech with an XT cassette as I’m a tart.

Xtr on the bits you'll keep and xt on the bits you wear out.

XTR gets a better warranty

I have XTR mech/XTR shifter on one bike and XTR shifter/XT Mech on the other, can feel no performance difference. (both with SRAM cassette, as it happens)

I'd have XT for the smashing off a rock bits and XTR for the shifter.

As above - the only reason to get XTR beyond shiny is the extra warranty.

Is that actually the case on the current generation of XTR shifter? I’ve got one, Katies got XT and I’m not sure the only difference isnt a carbon lever on XTR

The shift feel is very different. I’ve got both. Prefer the XTR (thankfully!).

Don’t know if it’s better quality machining/casting or bearings or whatever but the shift feels much snappier on XTR. No appreciable difference whether it’s hooked up to an XT or XTR mech though.

The difference is basically weight across all the range

Junkyard - lazarus
The difference is basically weight across all the range

That and different materials for bushings & bearings, titanium bits, carbon bits and shiny bits.

Oh and the fact they shifter feels way nicer.

I have both, it's not huge difference but the XTR shift just feels that little bit more positive.
