I've not used them for ages, but I had a problem where the rear callipers would stick on. The bike shop would clean them up, but it didn't seem to do much good. They were on a fixie, and I didn't need to use the rear brake, so lack of use might have been part of the problem. Once they started to stick I'd just release the cable.
Anyway, I might be pressing them into service again on a new frame! Is there anything which can be done to service them? I've read that Shimano used to have a service kit for the XTR brakes. They're the blue-y grey ones, with the parallel linkages.
Failing that, should I try to buy a 'new' pair, or are there any current V-brakes which are as good or better?
Check the obvious first i.e. frame mounts clean and lubed, cables run freely including noodle, linkages clean/lubed and are moving nicely and pads are adjusted to hit the rim squarely and not lipped or catching under rim. XTR Vs are normally damn good.
Thanks for that. Yes, I was just thinking they might be fine on a different frame, so I'll give them a clean up before installing them.
