I've got a 5year old XTR mech on my Ellsworth, its not a shadow one. The spring that tensions the chain has started to stick so if i'm in big ring but quite low down on rear, say 3rd cog, then drop onto middle ring the pivot at the top of the cage is not moving so I've no chain tension and it jumps all over. Theres a 5mm allen bolt on this pivot,at the back but it seems pretty stiff although I've not had the crow bar on it yet!. Anyone undone this and if I do ,will I be showered with springs and things I can't put back together. I've had it thru ultrasonic cleaner at work and relubed it but is still same. I can still ride it but means I have to keep an eye on the range of gears I'm using.
Whats the worst that can happen; you end up with a useless mech that's in a bunch of small parts rather than a useless mech that's in one piece! - do it! 🙂
