I have a set of wheels with XTR M965 hubs. The rear one has a bit of play so I intend to pull it apart for a bearing service.

Any ideas what I need / size cone spanners to buy?

Thanks.

@razorrazoo

The tech doc says the cone is M10 X 12.5mm and the lock nut is M10x16mm. Quite unusual.

No - it says that the cones are M10 thread and 12.5mm and 16mm deep respectively. Similarly, the locknuts are M10 and 4mm deep.

15mm and 17mm come spanners look like they’ll do the job.

15 and 17 would be my guess as well.

However Shimano often make XTR different, eg 4mm allen key brake bolts instead of 5mm etc.

Oops, thought that seemed a bit odd but rationalised it as xtr is sometimes funny as bigyan says.
