You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi,
I've just picked one of these up second hand and looks like you need a specific tool to tighten the left crank arm down. I've just spent ages googling and cant find any reference to the tool. It looks a bit like a smaller version of a cassette tool.
Also, specific tool for direct mount chainring removal - this looks very similar to the newer style of tool required for shimano BB cups or is that wishful thinking? Cant try my BB tool on until left crank arm is removed!
Thanks.
You only need the 8mm? hex to fit the arm, the funny star shaped cap doesn't need touching. But you do need a specific chainring tool.
As above, you remove them by using a clonking great 8mm allen key, it just winds off
When you refit them, widn it down until it stops and then use a 2mm allen key or similarly narrow pointy thing to spin the bearing pre-load ring into place, job done.
As for the chain ring, This will do
Unite do the right rings for around £40 too.
8mm hex for the crank arm install/removal. 45-55 Nm.
TL-FC41 is the Shimano chainring tool. I would imagine there are aftermarket options now.
Thanks for quick replies. I had another look and quickly saw the 8mm allen head! Durrrr
The chainring fitting is the same as the BB, but there is not enough clearance to get the spanner part on it so will have to buy a new one.
