Hi,

Has anyone experienced problems with the new XTR 11 speed RH shifter jamming? Or knows anything about a problem with these? The first one on my wife's bike was replaced under warranty 2 months ago after jamming up mid-ride and I thought maybe it was a one-off but the the replacement did the exact same thing yesterday.

The issue is that, very occasionally, increased tension on the cable (from shifting down) causes the cable to slip off and under the cam inside the housing. Looking at the design, the edge of the cam is almost flat and there's nothing to stop it slipping off, when the tension will then pull it underneath, jamming it solid.

Here's a pic which shows the cable in the jammed position (it should be up on that pulley, above it):

I've posted a thread about it with more pics and info on MTBR here:
http://forums.mtbr.com/drivetrain-shifters-derailleurs-cranks/xtr-m9000-rh-shifter-jams-stops-working-anyone-else-had-967122.html

Has anyone experienced this or knows anything about it? Somebody on MTBR mentioned a newer version with a redesigned cam, which may fix this issue, though when I spoke to Madison (UK Shimano importers) they denied all knowledge of such a problem.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Happened to me in the lakes yesterday. Managed to get the cover off, free the cable and out back together but happened again. Ride over. Was only it's 2nd or 3rd outing but the first with any real climbing.

My mates on his 3rd or 4th shifter with the same issue. Then again another mate has had zero problems. Seems shimano changed the cam wheel design at some point, with a little guide to keep the cable in the groove.

Happened to one customer of ours-out of 20 at a guess. New shifter under warranty & zero problems since.
