Any issues running a M9000 rear mech with a XT M8000 11-42t cassette?

Obviously the chain has to be long enough.

No issues there, and the same mech is apparently ok to 11-46.

As above - it'll work with 11-40, 11-42, or the 11-46 when available.

I've run my XTR M9050 mech with 11-42 and now 11-50, with a bit of a cage change 😀

I'm not disagreeing with anyone who is actually using bigger but I was told and read that it the xtr doesn't like and isn't designed for bigger than 40t. Xt can use 42t though.

Edit: just seen this

11-46T cassette
The 1×11 drivetrain range has been extended to a super-wide 11-46T spread, providing more gear choices for all-mountain and enduro riders. This new cassette is compatible with XTR M9000 and Deore XT M8000 drivetrains and has a claimed weight of 450g.

Shimano have form on this in both 9spd and 10spd.... it won't work until our competitors force us to admit it's fine.

I am running an 11 speed medium XTR mech on an M8000 XT 11-40 cassette with Oneup 45t cog. Works perfect. It replaced the 11 speed XTR 11-40 I was running as the XTR had serious issues right from new ie making an horrific creaking/crunching noise when pedalling hard but only in some of the larger cogs and oddly not in the 45t Oneup cog.
