Need some for my XTR 9spd M972. I recall reading that with this particular mech you can't just bung on any old stuff like cheaper Shimano. Is this true, as Shimano replacements are around £30 or something daft. Any cheaper suggestions?

I've got an XTR on my Stumpjumper. Dunno what number it is, but it's got a carbon cage and looks similar to pics that pop up on Google of the M972 you mention.

I replaced mine with KCNC anodised jockey wheels for a bit of red, but I think any shimano jockey wheels will fit. KCNC ones won't save you much (if any) money though....

There's been several posts about this before that popped up on Google...

🙂 Shows how much riding I've done in the last year/how bad my memory is! Mine was originally on a Stumpy too.

Mine was a 2010 Stumpjumper FSR, so perhaps the same mech.
Didn't even consider whether it'd need specific jockey wheels and the KCNC ones fitted fine. So, using some slightly dodgy conclusion drawing, you'll probably be fine with any 11 tooth Shimano compatible jockey wheels....
