An entrepreneur in the bike trade informed me that XTR drive train components tend not work that well with lower level parts such as XT. Would this be true? Also, the same person categorically stated that SRAM and Shimano and in some instances Campag parts are interchangeable….when I probed this, I was again informed about how a current MTB was running Shimano shifters with a SRAM rear mech. I thought I’d read on here that the latter couldn’t was a no-no??

I run10 speed XTR shifters, XT cranks and XT mechs no problems. Don't know about mixing SRAM though.

BS

As to the mixing of sram, shimano and campag, some mixing combinations (9 speed particularly) work, many don't.

is entrepreneur another word for taking crap?

Umm, I was equally surprised...more so with the SRAM aspect as, had it been the case, I might have shelled out for a rear mech upgrade 🙂

It does raise the question, why would a new business make such claims in trade that 'takes no prisoners'??

Peace and love.

SRAM Rocket and Attack shifters are designed to work with Shimano 9spd rear mechs.

i run a sram x-0 shifter, x-9mech, x-7 front shifter and slx front mech.

I'd do the same with shimano. You can run (Probably) shimano alivio with an XTR shifter..
