Hi, I'm having problems with my xtr brake levers sticking in and now completely not working. Yesterday the lever got stuck near the bar, but it seem to loosen up after a while. Today after changing to some new disks the lever came to the bar again and does not return at all. The caliper is holding onto the disk slightly and does not loosen up.
The brakes are off a used bike I've just bought so no chance of warranty. Any help would be appreciated as I'm a bit clueless on what it could be.
Thanks in advance
I was also swearing at a set of xtr last night with the same issue. Older ones and the pin got stuck and had to drill it out.
Swapped a spare caliper and opened the banjo bolt to get fluid in hose then tried to syringe pull from the bleed nipple. Pushing fluid from the bleed nipple made a clunk at the lever but only worked for a single pull. After that it won't take fluid being pushed up from the caliper as you should do.
So now got a floppy lever that comes to the bars despite trying a multitude of techniques on two separate calipers. Was working fine til my pads wore out.
So sympathies to you and avid watcher for solutions.
Article here but relates to 785 brakes, doesn't look like you can do anything with XTRs, assuming it's the same issue.

I've had 2 XTR front brakes warrantied. I think crap gets into the lever piston with bikes attached to the outside of cars (slipstream forces dirt into the piston plunger; there are no seals, just the piston O-rings).
Xtr is a 3 year warranty. I don't think 9020 has been out three years has it?
Go speak to your lbs and see if they can help you.
I normally take biscuits!
They're a bit too open a design IMO, lets crap get in the piston and gum it up. A friend of mine has gotten around this by taking them apart and using a dremel to very (very!) lightly sand down the inside of the lever piston body bit.
Your not alone, ive had my 9020's warrantied due to the exact same issue & it's not just xtr, the M8000's on my Hightower replaced, if the bike is upside down for removing wheels cleaning it or any reason eventually it seems any air in the system lodges at the master cylinder / lever, you then end up with this so called stuck lever, the best thing I've found is to regularly flush & bleed the brake to remove crud that may also cause the seal to stick & if it's a lip seal then flip over and it's then game over, remove it send it back.
Even if you remove the hose and use a very small allen key to assist the piston back it's too late as the seal has flipped over, I've used a syringe & forced the piston back using fluid pressure but to no avail.
Best advice, get rid & get some guide RSC for trouble free braking.
