10 speed saint was lovely, 10 speed XT pleasant, but when I switched to 11 speed XT it felt overly firm and clunky.
Ordered an XTR 11 speed shifter for my other bike expecting it to be a lot different but out of the packet it feels disappointingly similar. Wondering if the only difference is the matte black cover and carbon fibre lever and I am imagining it feeling slightly lighter. Anyone compared XT and XTR in real use? Not sure i see the point in going for XTR on 11 speed from initial impressions.
To my mind, XTR is TOO accurate, light action with a short throw. It's lovely, sure, but I prefer the feel of XT shifters. Always have done. I've worked on both 11sp systems and I'd choose XT for my own bike if I was buying. Walks all over SRAM.....
I have 9, 10 and 11 speed XTR and I think the 11 speed XTR is the best since 9 speed XTR. The 10 speed XTR felt stiff but the 10 speed XT felt slightly better. Other factors could be at play like cable routing causing a bit more friction. The 10 speed was known to be stiff compared to non clutch though.
10 spd Saint is lovely.
I also have 11spd XTR and it's okay... but the Saint is the king.
yeah I was really hoping that 11 speed XTR was going to feel like 10 speed Saint. Not fitted the shifter yet, just tried them out of the box but am failing to see the added "value" over XT that you got when you picked up a set of Saint and every click made you smile inside.
PP - throw feels only slightly lighter but the same length to me off the bike.
something else i did notice was my previous ispec B XT 11 speed came in a retail box with cable outer, ferrules and a standard stainless inner cable but the ispec II one I just got was an OEM so just inner and end crimp but the inner has some sort of green tinted plastic coating. Nothing like the old black PTFE XTR inners.
The XTR ispec II is also OEM but has an inner with a brown coating that feels a bit coarser than the green XT one as you can feel the metal cable beneath.
Neither are fitted though so the cable wont have any influence at the moment.
the brown cables are good
IME the 11spd XTR feels very similar to the 11spd XT
and neither are as slick as the 10spd Saint or 9spd XTR
any plans for a 11spd Saint shifter?
I will be annoyed if an 11 speed saint comes out soon but given that shimano is normally announced and then we have a looooong wait for it to hit the shops I don't think I need worry.
I wonder what the new SLX M7000 shifters are like. Supposed to be fitting SLX 11 speed to a friends bike but shes not ordered it yet.
