So the SRAM X1 11spd shifter has given up the ghost, the cable housing snapped inside..... so just bought an XT shifter and also bought an XT medium cage rear mech to replace the SRAM X1 mech....

Question is I know about the different pull ratios but read conflicting statements, do you think the XT shifter will work with the SRAM rear mech?

I will see in due course, but thought I’d mention it if any responses help anyone else? I went ISpec B spec too so it goes with the matchmaker on my brake lever

Short answer - no

http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/

Longer answer - maybe, there are odd combos that can work if you bastardise the cable connection but honestly I'd just expect it not to or be shit and get on with your day.

Pretty sure I've run a X1 11speed shifter with an XT mech and probably the reverse.
If they didn't work I didn't notice ... but i often wear headphones while i'm riding.

Looking at that chart, the cable pull is 3.48 versus 3.60 mm. Across 10 shifts, that's 1.2 mm difference, so the indexing at each end will be 0.6 mm off. I imagine it would function, but you'd really have to try it to see how well it shifted.

Yep sounds like i was right to replace the mech too.... only doing that as well as the spring on the X1 mech is weakening so it’s need changing anyway. Shimano seemed the right way to go, and a hell of alot cheaper too!

So, is the cassette spacing the same between Sram and Shimano 11 spd?

Edit: sorry the link above just answered that question.

Well bloody bollocks, so I got an XT shifter and XT mech. Go to attach the shifter to the Brake lever mount, doesn’t bloody fit does it!!

I bought the ISpec B shifter as it looked like it would fit, but it doesn’t...

I’m sure this has happened in the past with people too, surprised there are all these standards!

I’ll prefix it’s a SRAM Guide RS brake lever with some form of matchmaker that was fitted from factory so the shifter clamps onto the brake lever

Genuinely though I think I need help, I’ve found problemsolvers but they all seem to be Shimano brakes and matching to SRAM gears.

I’m the other way, SRAM Guide RS brake lever to an XT rear shifter...

I thought from my initial research that the two were directly compatible but I was wrong...

Which ispec version shifter did you buy?

Easiest solution would be a band on shifter.

I got the IspecB version, I agree and I was just hoping to use the existing Matchmaker and very surprised they aren’t compatible....

I’m just so surprised that they aren’t compatible, really poor on behalf of these massive companies, all it is is a slight metal shape change

Not surprising though. They don't want to make it easy to use their competitors product.

End result of this is I’m probably going to be returning the XT shifter and buying a SRAM one that I know will fit as it’ll still work with the XT rear mech

I've never understood that logic.
Yes, it makes it hard to switch away from their company's stuff, which is what they want, but also harder to switch to their company's stuff, which must be counter productive?

Maybe they hope you'll take both brakes and gears at the same time. Perhaps the upgrade market is not the target, it's about full builds (i.e. I'll get from the same company as it's easier) and OEMs.

I did check further and it does seem that matchmaker 2.2 would be the one to use that paired SRAM to XT ispecB, but out of stock and can’t even be bothered to attempt to try and find it.

Hopefully I’ll be able to marry a new shifter upto my new XT rear mech on a SRAM 11 speed cassette, it does seem that this does work but I’ve not attempted to fit yet

Just as a short update, received new SRAM X1 shifter and fitted XT mech, new inner and outer cables....think it needs a bit of a shakedown local ride just to loosen the mech off a tad but unless you hear from me again can class this as a success. It was pulling the required amount per gearchange earlier but only had a few mins of testing

I'm running the GX shifter with a SLX mech. No problems at all.
