You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’m going to go 1x11, so will need some new bits. I thought an XT shifter would be useful with the double shift feature but is a XT (M8000) mech worth the extra over a M6000 Deore? I assume this will be an improvement on the SLX 670 I have on there now.
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions
Surely the answer here is a M7000 mech???
that kind of thinking is why both my bikes have six mechs now 😀
However in this case I was thinking, pay the extra for matching options if worth it or the cheapest of the sensible choices for serious use if not.
If you can afford it, get XT. Then you won't always be wishing you had fancier rear mech!!
If you can afford it, get XTR. Then you won’t always be wishing you had fancier rear mech!!
^^what he said. I wish I had a fancier rear mech, but I can't afford XTR
I've been riding with someone who noticed how much slicker my gear changing was with XT than theirs was with SLX.
Thanks all,
The verdict then, is that if I get the XT I will recive better shifting and if I get the XTR I will recieve better shifting, not suffer with self doubt and as an added bonus people will think better of me because of my more expensive toys.
On this bike the extra cost for the XT mechs is justifiable because given its use I doubt it will ever get ripped off so should last 5-6 years like the current mech. On my other bike I would be very nervous as I have bent a rear mech on the side of a tree stump. On that, I would buy Deore unless there were good offers on more expensive mechs
