I’ve just replaced a 3x10 xt with 1x11 xt m8000 full groupset. Slight issues with setup. I have the high and low set correct but as soon as I start shifting up I see the shifter moving furthur and furthur away from the gear as if each shift is shifting slightly more than the length between the gears. Any help or recommendation would be great. Also when on the biggest cog there is a 5-6mm gap from lower jockey wheel. Would wrong chain length possibly cause this.
Are you sure you have routed the cable the correct way where it fits onto the mech?

The Shimano installation guide is pretty foolproof so I'd go through that first to make sure you've not missed any particular steps.
A little tip I learned from one of the Park Tool tutorials on fitting a new rear mech which often goes overlooked and can cause issues like you describe = set the hi and low stops before you attach the rear shifter cable, and don't pull the cable hard as you are installing it as it can end up in the situation where instead of the end point being dictated by the high gear stop screw, the cable strain itself becomes the stop point and whacks everything out of alignment.

"Many people think their H-limit screw is set appropriately, but it turns out the cable pull is stopping the derailleur, not the limit screw. There is a spring constantly pulling the derailleur outward and the cable is constantly pulling against that spring, being pulled in small increments by the shifter in order to make the shift. These shift increments correlate to the cogs, and when you shift out to the smallest cog it appears as though everything is lined up as it should be. In this instance, it actually the cable that is holding the derailleur in place and the limit screw may be set incorrectly. "
Must be the cable fastening. It’s easy to get it going round the bolt the wrong way as it’s counter intuitive.
Hi I’ve tried the cable route round the bolt the other way and it’s exactly the same. I’ve tried various positions of high setting screw but no matter what it seems I do it shift slightly more past the gear each time and a by the time I am on the bigger cogs it is catching and won’t change down.
