Evening folks,
About to click buy on a bunch of things to swap my 3x10 to a 2x10 set up. (shimano m785)
Will it be able to use my current front shifter on a double chainset instead? Is it just a case of getting the front mech set up correctly with the limiter screws?
I don't believe you will, they sell specific 2 x 10 mechs.
Forgot to mention that I'll be getting a 2x10 specific front mech. It's just the shifter that I'm not sure about
Just had a closer inspection. Indeed there is a little switch underneath it! Problem solved!
Cheers 🙂
Depends...
True 2x10 chain sets have different offsets and so the mechs have different throws.
Ten speed mechs also have shorter cages.
YMMV. I have an M785 E2 2x10 specific mech on an M665 double and bash crank and it's happy. It's being used with an SLX 3x10 shifter.
My bro had a SRAM 2x front mech that didn't like a RF double and bash.
Guessing, but maybe Shimano kit has wider adjustment range?
Mech's cheaper than shifter anyhoo and will work with 3x shifter.
Edit: just seen switch post. Didn't consider new 785 shifter.. My bad. 🙂
set it to the middle ring to change it to 2x from 3x... i learned this the hard way, and had to buy a new shifter 🙁
Nearly made the same mistake..... Why won't it switch to x2 mode.... Ah need to switch it into the middle ring first!
