The noise isnt from the chain, I've had this happen before, the "hinges" that allow the mech to move seem to be getting slack allowing the cage to rattle. This is after less than a year, but the mech still shifts perfectly.

Any solution (other than going 1x11 or buying a new mech)?

cheers

Buy a new mech...like my XT one, only 3 rides old an only £14 posted. 😉

Unless the rattling annoys you, if it still shifts well, keep it going. I have a 14year old well used XTR front mech that has rattled for the last 8 years or so and still works nicely.

Assuming it's a top swing model, and it's less than about 8 years old, it'll have a small spring on the back topmost linkage to stop this. Maybe that's dislodged or broken.
Conventional types don't have this problem as the cable pulls any slop tight.
