I managed to shear the cable holding bolt on an XT front mech, I think it happened while riding which is weird.
I changed it for a Deore XT multifit that's meant to take 44 or 48 tooth outer rings, I'm running a 44 CD. But now the mechs mounted I can't lower it enough to stop the chain dragging on the chain guide while on the inner ring.
It didn't come with any fitting instructions, so have I missed something?

Have you got it as low as possible (should clear the outer ring by 1-2mm when shifting)? Have you got it roughly parallel with the centreline of the frame?
Have you seen park tool's site? parktool.com/repair
holyhutzpa, yep - the cage clears the outer ring by about 1mm as it swings over it. I have fitted mechs before, so made sure it was as low as I could get it.
But it still needs to be lower, and can't see how I can do that.
You have got the same type again?
You may need a down swing front mech (high mount) instead of a a top swing one.
Which one do you have?

Swap the bolt and use the old mech.
