Can anybody shed any light on if a middle ring on an fitted triple xt chainset will be in the exact same position (ie same distance from frame) as the outer ring on a double xt chainset?

the reasoning behind the question is I want to run 1x 10 and my chain device is fine with my current triple cranks but I like the look of the new xt double cranks but don't want to buy a new chain set just for the crank arms if the device will not line up properly.

Thanks in advance for any info.

no it's not in the same place. There's a spec sheet which describes chainline on shimano europes website.

I know the chainline is different but when I looked it up the chainline on a double is measured to the centre of the gap in the rings and on a triple it's the centre of the middle ring.
I hope that makes sense and that's why I am asking if the rings will be in the same location.

According to the Shimano tech manual these are the measurements from centre of BB to centre of rings for the two chainsets -

M780 triple 55.7, 48.2, 40.6
M785 double 50.2, 42.3
