Hi,
I've got some old XT disc brakes (MTB), one of the levers is knackered, can I buy some Ultegra STI Road shifter/brake levers and fit them to my Kona Major Jake CX bike?
Is it straight fwd? I know the Hope Road brake have the weird cable bit form the levers. Are Shimano Road brakes just a hydraulic cable all the way to the lever?
Like these I'm thinking:
cheers
I think you can - I've got the RS685 set on my bike and the calipers look identical to the ones on my mountain bike.
However, that seems like a pricey way to get hydro on your road bike - you'd be looking at £400 for the levers + faffing and fitting the 2nd hand calipers.
you could just buy this instead and have a full system for £349
cheers for the link. I've got the XT Calipers already, they're off my MTB.
Seems Road discs are crazy expensive 🙁
I've been running xt calipers with my shimano road levers for a couple of years now and I've not died.
There was an article at the time that said they had tested some road calipers and the piston broke, madison replaced with xt as the pistons were tougher for off road. Not sure of its true but they work and I've had no issues.
Road shifters are expensive but they are brakes and gear shifters in one.
