Is it possible to convert this XT triple chainset to a single for singlespeed duties? I think the bike has a 73mm BB. I'm not sure about the BCD, and what chainring bolts/spacers I'd need. Is the chainline likely to be compatible with a standard singlespeed cassette hub?

I don't know which chainset you have but the answer is very likely yes.The model will be stamped on to the inside of the crankarm, so you can easily figure out the BCD from that. Very likely you won't have any problems finding a suitable chainring. Surly the best. You'll need short chainring bolts ( Charlie, hubjub, velosolo or others ). Just use a cassette hub, spacer kit, halo cheapest last time I looked, and a wide based cog. Again, surly the best. Pc 971 or pc951 for chain.

Yes. I used a XT triple chainset on a single speed Kona Unit for a couple of years. From memory you'll just need some shorter chainring bolts (think I got mine from eBay).

Thanks very much. I tried to upload a photo to some free hosting software and link to it in my post, but it obviously hasn't worked!
