Got a new kmc x11 and fitted it to my bike. Went for a ride and there was a noticeable clicking coming from rear of bike. Figured it was just the old cassette being too worn, so go a new xt 11-46 cassette and it is clicking too. Anyone have any ideas. It's an slx mech , think it's 675 shadow +
Might be worth a couple of pics, you have routed the chain the right way, so it's not touching the separation bar in the hanger?
Failing that, tight link by the sounds of it, is the missing link in all the way?

The clicking is fairly constant so it's not the link

As you've gone to the expense if a new chain and cassette replace the inner and outer cable too and then let us know if it's still clicking.
Clicking in all gears?
Clicking as chain link goes through the mech or such?
Clicking in all gears as the chain goes round the cassette / through the mech
Does it sound like an indexing issue?
I'd be inclined to get the bike upside down/ on a stand and turn the crank so you can look at the cassette/ chain/ mech to see the timing of the click. I mean to say, does it do it once per revolution only and try to narrow the cause down. Could just be a tight link that needs loosening or a lot of other minor things.
Get your eyes and ears near the problem and it should be easy to diagnose.
I still believe that the very latest Shimano 11spd is more sensitive to the width of the chain. I had a clicking/rubbing noise with a new KMC chain and in the end replaced with a Shimano chain and it went away. The latest Shimano xt/ultegra chains mention something about being narrower, can't remember what they call it, but it has happened on both MTB and road bike. the road bike was brand new and supplied with a KMC chain and it made the noise out of the box until I swapped for the Shimano chain.
Clicking as chain link goes through the mech or such?
@poopscoop I've done that before where I might have threaded the chain over the little metal bit 😂. At least in my defence I noticed straight away.
A friend of mine once did a trail side repair to a broken chain. It sounded terrible for the first hour or so. He thought he'd twisted the chain and was just thankful it worked. Then we heard a ping and a thud and the gears worked and sounded fine. The little metal bit had broke off.
Lol, me too.
Not the cable end tickling the spokes? I had that today. I wondered why it had suddenly started to do it when the cable pulled through the bolt and I lost half the gears!
so I changed the derailleur cable inner and outer and it made no difference
I put on another chain , not new but not knackered, and the clicking went away.
Do I just have a duff new chain?
Only time i've heard clicking is if there's a stiff link, or the quick link isn't fully locked, might be worth just checking each link of the chain for full movement, then when installing again, double check the quick link is fully engaged?
KMC chains are noisier than Shimano chains. May well just be the chain.
I had a similar problem, presumed rock strike on rear cassette ring. Metal File sorted it.
Only found it after changing pedal bearings and buying new BB 🙃
I've had 2 kmc chains snap over the last year, neither were much over 6 months old Switched to Shimano ( 1 on a Shimano slx cassette, 1 on an E Thirteen cassette) and they're both shifting noticably better
