Have a set of shimano m785 brakes, which worked great until around a month ago, when I changed the pads on the front and despite properly bedding them in, they just seem to lack the initial bike i'm used to. (same pads)
Some of the power's still there, if I squeeze really hard I can still endo the bike, though really hard braking does make a squeal (not really noticeable on the trail, only if I go from a fair speed to a full stop in one go). The lever also feels slightly spongey.
So far I've:
Bled the brakes several times. Lever feels firmer afterwards, but will revert back to it's usual feel after a ride or 2.
Changed pads and sanded rotor, so no one off contamination or glazed pads.
My guess is there has to be a tiny oil leak in the cylinder somewhere, and that's causing the lack of power and spongey feel, though I can't see any oil seeping out. I'm guessing when I swapped the pads I might have pushed the pistons back too far and bust a seal?
Anyone else had a similar issue? It's driving me mad at the moment! 😥
Could be a number of things, i've had customers with similar symptoms come in and it can range from bad fluid in the system which requires a full hydraulic flush of the system, brake lines being too long for the respective brake, deteriorated brake lines, damaged bleed ports, worn out rotors, dodgy pads...to name a few issues that may be possible!
The squeeze hard and squeal says to me you have some contamination on the pads.
