Like many other posters, my front XT brake developed a leak at the caliper seal.
Am thinking of going SLX instead, but can I be a cheapskate and just buy the caliper, or is the servo wave thingamajig in the SLX lever essentai?

The SLX caliper will fit as will any Shimano caliper, the Servo Wave is a clever little cam thingy in the brake lever.
I did the same to my 4yr old Deores, so getting some new brakes to replace these and then drop the current SLX onto the bike the Deores were on
