quite fancy swapping the split pin on my SLX disk brakes for some of the bolts that come on the XT (I understand they just fit straight in)

Anyone found a source for these?

Google hasnt picked anything up

Tech docs say the part number for the "pad axle" is Y8JZ05000, or Y8JZ98010 including the snap ring (threadlock is better).

Perhaps try your LBS to see if they could order it in?

Wiggle has them listed [url= http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-br-m785-pad-axle-snap-ring/ ]here[/url] but showing out of stock until mid-September! If they can't get them, I guessing Madison won't have them, so you'll need to find someone already with stock, or try some of the European shops that have a different distributor...

I made my own by getting some slightly longer bolts, sticking them in a pillar drill by the excess threaded end and "latheing" them down with a file. Then cut excess thread off.

Took about 10 minutes each.

what is wrong with the split pin? no tools required and they just work....

in fact i've replaced the bolt on the GFs avids with split pins....

nothing wrong with the split pins really - might stick with them
