So a friend of mine put dot 5.1 (instead of mineral oil) in their xt brakes. Then tried bleeding it only to find that now the caliper is leaking from the side of the piston. Just wondering what the options are, if it's a new brake or can shimano repair it?
Opps, well I'd be surprised if Shimano will warranty it....
Dot 5.1 will rot the seals, including any in the lever, so looks like whole new brake time.
Rotor will probably be ok, bonus. 🙂
Thanks for the quick reply Nick
What Nick says.
You need to flush it asap before the seals rot.
Before you throw them try it.
If they still leak there is a bloke on pinkbike that advertisers a botch fix under brake sales. He might be able to help
Good luck
