Having broken my lever blade on my brakes i can't seem to find a spare, does anyone sell, or know a place i can find the blade for an 8120 disc brake (rear), without having to buy an entire lever?

Seems weird for it to be so hard to find, it's pretty flimsy so expect these break quite often, i tried the 8020 lever i have on another bike, but different sizes, so as per usual, no real commonality across the range!

If anyone can get them it will be sjs cycles but I expect you can't, shimano are not great with such things.

Checked SJS, i think they answered the question saying the 8100 and 8120 aren't the same, not sure how shimano can't do this as a spare!

There isn't an M8120 lever as far as I know. Both 2 and 4 pot brakes use the same lever, the M8100.

Yeah just checked my last one, was the BL-8100, unfortunately you have to buy the entire lever, as shimano don't appear to do spare lever blades, which is a bit worrying as the blade is seriously thin aluminium that's been bent/formed, and has next to no real strength.

Will start looking at replacing the brakes now i think, twice is too much in the space of two months, might give Hope a go, not tried them in a while!

Check the code on the brake lever, put it into shimano tech, check the part diagram (EV), if its a BL-8100 a left hand lever blade is Y2RR9802 https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brake-levers/shimano-deore-xt-blm8100-lever-member-unit-left-y2rr98020/

Out of stock unfortunately.

There must be an echo in here.

Any chance they’re still interchangeable between older models? I tend to hang on to levers if something else on the brake broke and have rescued a couple of crashed sets. Someone here might have some knackered older brakes that could donate a spare? (I’ve run out)

Cheers Mister P, have requested SJS to email when stock arrives, unfortunately the older ones don't fit, i have the older 8020s and the lever has a different mounting alignment so doesn't fit

Starting to dream of Hope brakes now, thought i'd try and switch the lever blade so at least i'd have back brake, it appears they're unidirectional, damn you Shimano!

Dragging this thread back to the top again - this is relevant to me.

Having already snapped one lever blade, and had to buy a new lever unit just to get a new blade - I've gone and ****ted another blade and whilst it bent back, I expect it'll snap if it's hit again.

As such, I'm on the hunt for replacement lever blades.

This thread here: https://www.mtbr.com/threads/shimano-deore-xt-m8120-lever-blade.1147545/ talks about compatibility between lever units - with some useful tips (I've copied some of the text):

1. You can buy aftermarket lever blades from a company called Flo Motorsports - your mileage may vary tho on whether you think the price and lever is worth it
2. The lever blades from the 7000/8000 and 7100/8100 series are interchangeable left to right so long as you use the correct side's spring. It's the spring that makes the "member unit" side specific not the lever itself.
3. The lever blades from the 7000/8000 series cannot be used in stock form with the 7100/8100 series body. They are taller and will not fit into the perch unless you take some material off with a file (see photos). This worked out extremely well and I was able to use an old blade from a broken 7000 series lever in my 7100 series body. I only had to carefully file a small amount of material off of the top and bottom of the blade where it slips into the perch

I also read somewhere that the Shimano SLX M7000 lever blades were compatible...as per https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/questions/68908/will-an-shimano-m8000-brake-lever-blade-fit-a-m8100

Just fit a Zee lever... £25 (assuming you didn't get sucked into ispec)

@stevextc - is the lever blade compatible? I'm not looking to replace the entire assembly - just the blade.

I dunno as not had ang x120 levers yet.

I do however have 4 pots running from both Zee and M7000 levers... (don't like the M8000's as the grip tape doesn't stick well to the dimples) the M7000's have screws replacing the security screw for bite point

No they won't fit, i faffed about and ended up getting one from SJS, did see the US levers, but $90 + $25 then tax at this end would make them 100 quid or more, and to be honest i'm just going to put that into a set of Hope V4s when they're a little less rare and deals are available.

Sorry for bumping this but does anyone know of any stock of these levers?

Sadly not, i broke another last month and ended up buying an X8000 series lever instead of the 8100, as it's a bit of a stronger lever.

3 levers in about 6 months though, never had one break before, not a fan of these new XT levers!
