So I think it's fairly safe to say I wore out my pads at Wetford over the weekend .

My brakes came with the finned pads and I'm not sure what the material was on them. Not bothered about the go faster fins but do obviously need ones that fit correctly.

Has anyone brought replacements, and if so where from?

Cheers

I have put superstar sintered in mine, they work well but squeel like a Wookie 🙁

I'm on Hope rather than XT, but having suffered the same noise as scruff, I switched to the kevlar versions - seem to have reasonable life and less squealing, and work well.

They've yet to see a proper winter though, so longevity might be an issue.. they are cheap though.

I was using superstar sintered pads in xtr calipers at D2D. Same shape pads as your XT calipers. They were bedded in before the race and I used the bike for 5 laps, the pads aren't totally worn out and I could probably have got a few more laps out of them. I haven't noticed any squealing, although I only fitted them last week as I didn't think the stock Shimano resin pads would last long at a wet Thetford.

I had to replace the pads on my other bike during the race, that has the older XT calipers, I put in some fresh out of the packet Superstar sintered pads in and they lasted for three laps until the finish. The course was at it's wettest then. Given they weren't bedded in, and the sandy wet slop we were riding through I am actually surprised how much pad material was left at the end.

Cheers guys

I presume this is the place to buy Superstars from - http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/ and I'm looking at the S5 version ?

Bearing in mind I need new pads and winter is coming, what pad material would folk suggest?

TJ will be along to say you drag your brakes too much as his Hope pads last several circumnavigations of the globe.

I'd go for the kevlar pads, been running them in my hopes since the beginning of spring and haven't had to change a set yet.

Lol. As I posted in the D2D thread, I graunchsquealed the whole way round. Dunno why the discs took exception but I pretty much ended not braking for anything other than 90' bends. Mind you I was going so slowly I didn't need the brakes!

I think I'll have a go with some sintered and maybe the kelvars, just for comparison.

Sintered tend to last better in grinding paste compared to the Kevlars. Once the ground conditions deteriorate I tend to swap out my kevlars until the spring. Make sure you bed the sintered in properly first though!

Bedds, I bought one set of the cooling fin pads for use in the Pyrenees a few weeks ago, bought them from Pedal On. Resin are £22.49, sintered are £30+. Do a search for: M985 cooling

Lots of places stock them
