* can I use my normal '10 speed' compatible narrowy-wide ring (currently Hope) & crankset (XT 10 speed)?

Probably has all been asked before but I looked and couldn't find it.
I'm hoping (optimistically) I can buy the cassette, chain, an 11 speed XTR shifter, and drop those on to my XT 1x10 set up.

Yes (presumably by front shifter you mean the right hand shifter, otherwise you'll only get 2 clicks out of it!)
Although you might get away with using the RM + either a goatlink or the RAD adapter plate cage thing. I wouldn't though.

Once I tried XTR shifters I couldn't go back.
It's xtr innit 😉 honestly it'll be lighter and look nicer, might work a bit better.
