With the XLPR stuff from SRAM, I know you need an XPLR rear mech and chain, but what about the crankset and cassette where the teeth will only see the bottom of the chain?

WIll Force work?

Yes force will work, infact I'd have thought all cassettes and chainrings will work - it just sram would like you to stick to their stuff for 'optimal' performance.

I used a GRX chain set (albeit with a WolfTooth chainring) when I had an XPLR groupset. Worked fine. I think the thing you need to check is that the counting is okay with Flattop chains (something about the roller size being different)?

There must be something in it because garbaruk make specific Sram AXS versions of their chainrings?

I’m running XPLR rear mech with Eagle chain and cassette with no issues.
Going to try the XPLR cassette with this set up when I get the new free hub.

I think that Rival, Force or Red are the ideal cranksets for XPLR. They are designed to work best with the flattop chains.
Alternatively, I'm certain any of the MTB cranksets would be fine. Maybe with a 6mm offset chainring to maintain ideal chainline?
